Damn, it's getting expensive to ship balls...

I sold 10 balls in 2 weeks, 4 of which went to the east coast....the rest locally. I should of spent another day or two checking with local market...shipping cost just went up for sure.

Also, I didn't realize how many ppl threw 14lbs.....

Sit back and look at what a package goes through to get from you to someone across the country and it doesn't seem that expensive.  Especially if you think about you might have used $10 in gas if you just drove it across town.

FEDEX has been considerably cheaper than UPS for me. I've done about 90% FEDEX ver the past couple of years, unless someone is close enough that the difference is less significant. Most times, I price used balls as cost + shipping + PayPal fees, but then I sell mine fairly cheaply too.

I use fedex as well. Prices run me usually $14-$22 max with insurance.

UPS is good because i walk in there with a ball and they pack and ship it.  Usually costs 25-30 bucks including all of the packing materials and it automatically gives you 100 dollars worth of insurance.

Both UPS and FEDEX automatically give you $100 of insurance. Not USPS gives you $50 of insurance automatically with Priority Mail, and a tracking number. I still don't use them.

One pays extra for UPS or the UPS Store to pack it. They are more conveniently located, for me, than the FEDEX drop off stations, but the added expense, unless you're int he middle of the country and shipping is less for those of us on either coast, is too much. Since our original discussion was about price, ....

This is why I prefer to sale on ebay most the time. If you ship through them via FedEx you'll save 20%. Just shipped a ball is sold on ebay from Cali to Florida yesterday and it was $20 FedEx ground.

I use FedEx unless it's going outside the 48 US states. If you have a FedEx account, you get a discount based on how much you ship. I can ship through my personal FedEx account for less than using the Ebay service.

Being that I live in Hawaii, it really doesn't make too much sense to buy balls and have them shipped here.  It cost about same just to buy it from a local shop than to have it shipped and not knowing exactly what i'm getting.

Buying used ball used to make good sense. You could get a decent ball for $20-$30 bucks, shipping was $10-$15 more, and a full plug was another $15, so you could end up with a really good piece for around $50-$60.

 Now, people are asking $50-$75 for a good ball, another $30 to ship it, and another $75 to have it cleaned/plugged/de-oiled/re-drilled at the shop. You can tie up $150 in a used ball really quick these days, and that just isn't worth it when you can find great deals on NIB discontinued stuff and get a brand new ball just as cheap or cheaper.

UPS also gives a 10% discount if you are old like me and have an AARP card.
