Shooter to replace Icon?
« on: November 19, 2003, 06:54:44 AM »
So recently I've been considering balls to replace my Icon, mostly looking at low-load particle covers. However, I've been given the chance to pickup this ball at a steal of a price. If I were to lay this out for more even roll than skid/snap, could this give me the same smooth motion my Icon does on the lanes? Ebonite is the company I'm least familiar with, so this might be a dumb question. Has anyone thrown both?

I would imagine that if you smooth out the reaction of a shooter with the drilling it still would be more violent than your Icon.  This is, however, just my opinion and I haven't thrown either.

A shooter with about 800 wet sand or using ebonite matte finish
would make it closer to the icon but in my case it is still a stronger
backend than my icon was. It is a great ball and my teammate who is an ebonite staffer averages 229 with it nightly and rarely uses another ball on late blocks. When they a little oiler he just squares up and still crushes shot after shot it must be nice to be that good, he is a 2 time high roller champion
Paul renteria and a tour bowler from the mid 80's. Hope this helps you i would buy for the right price maybe 140 tops

I seriously doubt that the Shooter is a replacement for the Icon. The Shooter is a solid resin, polished, whose core and cover intend it for a large reaction on medium-light to medium oil patterns.

The Icon is a solid particle cover, polished, intended for medium to medium-heavy oil patterns.

I have to believe there are better, significantly better Ebonite match-ups to the Icon., than the Shooter. Try polishing a Pursuit or a V2 Sanded lightly to get the equivalent to an Icon, in an Ebonite ball, IF that is what you want.
