Heavy Oil Suggestions
« on: August 20, 2009, 09:02:05 AM »
I am in need of a new heavy oil ball. I just got an Evolve that works great. However, for my Saturday Morning Junior League, we don't get fresh oil. The Evolve goes fairly long, so I get into trouble with carrydown. So I need something that will hook just as much, but start up earlier and be a little smoother. Any suggestions?
About me:
Speed:18-19 MPH
Rev Rate: 350-375

Thanks in advance.

hmmm the problem I see is that just about everything stronger that is new is built for a lot of backend so not sure if that wont help as you said smoother.

so you may have to modify the drilling to make it roll smoother.

balls above the evolve or equal are:

siege
magic (goes longer)
rogue cell (lots of backend!)
break point
930T
Full swing (might be a good choice but goes a touch longer then evolve)
dynamo, clutch, sting (all with LOTS of backend!)
bounty hunter
motiv tr2

with that being said I can only think of two balls:

siege and motiv tr2

I personally would just change the surface of the evolve to help it hook just a touch earlier (thats my .02 cents)

I would agree with icewall.  Just probably have to modify your surface a bit to maybe a 1000 Abralon or lower depending on the ratio of oil they are laying out.  Evolve is supposedly supposed to be a high oil ball so I think that should do the trick.

Second that. Instead of spending money on another ball, I'd try surface adjustments first. Just make some step-by-step trials, try the ball intrainming to judge if the reaction has changed enough, and see what happens. It can also be the drilling's influence that does not make your Evolve suitable for heavy/longer oil. If it has a high pin position, chances are that it hooks just too late. Surface changes help, but a pin-down setup would be a better choice.
Another thing is your release style. Make sure to stay behind the ball for earlier roll. If you have lots of side rotation or top the ball, ANY ball will have a hard time on heavy/long oil or carrydown to finish well.

like stated up above changing the surface would probably do the trick.. also if you really like the evolve you could buy another one of them and change the drilling on the new one.. the "original bounty" is strong and smooth,I would suggest this ball if you really want a new ball..

What about the Buzzbomb?  (j/k)

I think he wants another ball to go w/his evolve so he doesn't have to change the surface back for his other league where it "works great".  I like the suggestion of the Rogue Cell or maybe a Virtual Energy.  I think some of the other suggestions may be too much & don't offer the versatility of these 2 for a Saturday morning junior league.  JMO.
