short notice BR bowling session in New York City...
« on: February 20, 2005, 07:51:11 AM »
I'm going to New York City for vacation this week, I'll be down there on Wednesday until Sunday. My wife and daughter have plans to go to Chelsea Piers on Thursday morning and since there is an AMF center there, I was thinking of going and seeing if I could bowl with a few people that post on the board. I know the rates are high, but I'm trying to keep my costs down with taking my car everywhere while I'm down there....plus I'll only be bringing 2 balls with me plus shoes instead of everything I have.

Anyone interested? I've also been talking with Bob7- and he warned me since it's vacation week, I may have to reserve a lane or two. Is anyone interested in helping me out? PM me or post here, I will be checking my messages for the next couple of days before I leave.

I figure 11am would be a good time to go...

Matt

You'll save money by parking your car at the hotel, and taking cabs and/or buses around Manhattan.  If you try to drive and park everywhere you go, you'll wind up in parking lots (finding a spot on the street is almost impossible), which will cost you a fortune, especially if you move around a lot, as I would expect you will be doing, since you're there to sightsee.

If you insist on driving your car around, and you're lucky enough to find a spot on the street, be very mindful of the no-parking and alternate side parking signs.  With an out-of-state plate, they'll tow you away in a New York minute, and getting your car out of the pound is both aggravating and expensive.

I can't make it into the city next week, but you know that the PBA tour is in West Babylon (Long Island) this week, yes?

I'd love to, Matt, but unfortunately I have to work on Thursday and I promised to sub at 6:30 PM. Available on any other days?

Seadrive: I guess I should have clarified my post. I plan on keeping my car at the hotel and using public transportation the whole time I'm down there...

Charlest: I don't know what Saturday looks like for me quite yet, my wife and I will have our daughter with us and we are taking things day by day.... Thursday was looking like the day I could do something on my own for a few hours, and my wife knows how much I enjoy bowling. I'll probably PM you and see if we can hook up somehow maybe on Saturday if possible.

Thursday @ 11:00 am?

Can't do it unless I take the day off.  There are 3 houses in the City that I know of... Bowlmor (right off 14th & University), Chelsea (EXPENSIVE!!!!) and Leisure Lanes (aka Port Authority).  There are other houses within the other boroughs, but don't know if you're willing to travel and/or get lost... LOL

If you decide on the weekend, let me know.  I may have some free time to throw a few.

Well, I may be reconsidering going to Chelsea Piers based on the reaction from all the locals, and see if I can get to Leisure Lanes on the weekends. I sent a PM to FBM357 about it, if interested maybe on a Saturday to do something at Leisure Lanes instead, send me a PM either tonight or tomorrow morning, as I leave shortly after 10 am...

Go for it, Matt. You won't meet a nicer guy than Vernon.
