You'll save money by parking your car at the hotel, and taking cabs and/or buses around Manhattan. If you try to drive and park everywhere you go, you'll wind up in parking lots (finding a spot on the street is almost impossible), which will cost you a fortune, especially if you move around a lot, as I would expect you will be doing, since you're there to sightsee.
If you insist on driving your car around, and you're lucky enough to find a spot on the street, be very mindful of the no-parking and alternate side parking signs. With an out-of-state plate, they'll tow you away in a New York minute, and getting your car out of the pound is both aggravating and expensive.
I can't make it into the city next week, but you know that the PBA tour is in West Babylon (Long Island) this week, yes?
