Years ago I tried Simple Green as a cleaner, and have not since.  It was good at removing dirt, but I thought it was SLOW as a degreaser to effectively remove oil unless I was patient enough (which I am not).  I can see zero advantage to using it so the powers that be at U.S.B.C. should leave it alone.

U.S.B.C. really should take a step back and "pick it's battles" so to speak.  By them poking their nose in everything it seems to suggest that they are bored, and looking for something to do.  They need to understand that it's impossible to legislate honesty and integrity, which is really the heart of the matter.  Any attempt to do so is naive.

Its even more silly than that.  They openly say regular full strength simple green is legal but as soon as you put one drop of water to dilute it becomes illegal even outside competition.  Never mind that simple green is made to be diluted by water.  Its one of its main selling points (more economical, etc).  There is zero advantage gained bowling wise to diluting (other than helping making sure there is no simple green film on ball after cleaning) but its still illegal even outside of competition which is why I am so hot.  I am not mixing some dangerous chemicals.  I am just trying to use the product as it was intended (right on there on the label) on MY equipment in MY house and the USBC asshats want to make that illegal.  They want me to buy some tiny bottle of Storm crap that costs more than a gallon of Simple Green.

If it's that big of a deal to you, get the MSDS for the product, put 8 ounces of your concoction in a container, fill out the USBC form, and send it in for approval.

You mean for H2O?  They have already approved the full strength Simple Green.  Its that rare exotic dangerous chemical water they have a problem with.  Its not approved to be used as a cleaner.  I can send them an 8oz sample from the toilet.  I should send them MSDS for HF acid and be like oops wrong one after they panic and call hazmat.

Water is also not on the non-approved list.  Your arguing a point just to argue.

If you want to feel better about what you clean your bowling balls with, mix your simple green lemon and water and submit it to USBC for approval.  It'll cost about $8 to get it there.  They will test what is sent to them.  They can't possibly test every concoction that every person home brews.  There are plenty of home brews on the approved list.

Anything not on the approved list is non approved by default (the real rub of all this).  The not approved at any time list just lists things they know will not be approved.  Mixing SG and water is hardly some home brew.  Those two chemicals mixed together should be legal in any concentration explicitly.  Else I will be sending them a crap ton of samples to cover many different percentages.  Any product approved on their list that explicitly states on the label that the product can be diluted safely with water should be allowed to be diluted.  The real solution to this is just continue doing what I am doing quietly and when the USBC finally collapses and we get people with common sense in charge then maybe I take up the cause.  If I clean my bowling balls carefully with 91% iso before any tournament then good luck trying to nail me even with their stupid rules.  I know I am only breaking the stupidity of the rule not the spirit and not cheating in any way.  Let the fools pay $10 to $12 for a 4oz bottle of cleaner.  Meanwhile a $2.50 quart of iso will last me a few months and as far as the USBC is concerned that is all I ever use.

I'm pretty sure USBC charges a pretty hefty fee to run their cleaner approval test.  --  JohnP

Oh that lemony scent on my bowling ball?  Darn must not have wiped all the Clean and Dull residue completely off.  Sorry about that.

So we can get all those silly little pins or a cheapo once a lifetime award. Oh no, wait, to fund their BS ITRC complex to train present PBA stars & up & comers w/ the latest in technology. Meanwhile we should be happy to pay more every year to basically get no ROI! Man, we are all stupid!

I have a slight confession to make.  Come to think of it I didn't fill out any paperwork for the USBC in my league so I think it might not actually be sanctioned.  I still wanted to rip them a new one considering with be a doing at least a few tournaments and will need to get signed up eventually lol.
