Shot a team honor score in Vermont tournament this weekend
« on: December 18, 2005, 09:09:28 PM »
Well, I went up to St. Johnsbury Vermont for a singles/doubles/teams tournament that takes place the first 3 weekends in December at Gold Crown Lanes. 16 lane wood house, they tend to lay out a shot that can make getting to the pocket fairly easy but the transitions can cause some challenging shots and lots of carry problems. I ended up averaging 222.6 for the 15 games I bowled (low set 635, high set 705) but according to the tournament director our 5 man team may be eligible for a state honor score for shooting over 1250 scratch in the first team game we bowled. What makes this all the more interesting is you only get 1 frame of warm up per lane before you start bowling- which means in my case, throwing 2 strikes, I got 2 warm up balls... good thing I do lots of stretching beforehand to get loose.

Our team shot 1284 the first game scratch- these were the totals.
First bowler (me): 278
Second bowler    : 252
Third bowler     : 288
Fourth bowler    : 257
Fifth bowler     : 209

Our anchor struggled with ball speed this game, left 2 Greek Churches. The lone right hander on our team shot the 288 (10 in a row, solid 10 pin and he missed it). Too bad we didn't maintain close to this pace in games two and three, but we did come in second place scratch for teams which will net us some decent cash.

Matt

MSC,
First off, congrats to your team.  That is certainly a nice team game.  On the other hand, unfortunately your team is not eligible for a national award.  I just checked on the bowl.com site and it states that a game has to be 1325 and series 3700.

Nice job and hope your scores for the team stay in second.

mrteach3: Thanks for the heads up- I probably should have stated that this award is one that is done from the state association, not the national USBC end of things. We were told that any honor score shot in a Vermont league or tournament 5 man team that is at least 1250 scratch will receive an honor score award from the state.

Matt,

You did state that.  I just didn't read it the right way.    Oops!!!  Great job and congrats.
