question
« on: September 19, 2004, 02:15:48 PM »
I notice on a lot of older balls (when I say older, I mean like only a few years older) they are "Pro-Active". What exactly is "Pro-Active"? I know what Reactive is, just not Pro Active. Any insight on this?

To expand Brenton Davy's post, Brunswick took the same tack when resin balls first came out.

Everyone called these new balls, "reactive resin". Just to be different, for marketing purposes, I assume, Brunswick called them, "reactive urethane". Most people, like we on ballreviews, thought, at first, that Brunswick's balls were different. So we assumed that there were reactive resin balls and reactive urethane balls.

Only later we all learned that all resin balls were "urethane" with an additive that made them into "resin". So Brunswick's were the same as everyone else's. Urethane and resin and polyester (the true name for what we often call plastic balls) all belong to the chemical family call "Plastics".

Hey Bk,

I agree with Davy and Charlest.  I learned at a Bruns seminar about 5-6 yrs ago that they patented the word "Pro-Active" so nobody else could use it.  The true term for particle is actually "Active Urethane".  Bruns picked Pro Active, Hammer had "Syn-tactive" and then it went from there but it's still basically considered particle.
