Should Be Mandatory
« on: August 26, 2003, 03:40:53 AM »
Just thought I would point out that Doug Sterner is the ONLY one that posts prices here on BR.  Why is it that others just say, "message me", "available for shipping now", "taking pre-orders", or whatever else they say?  Sure their sites (if they have a site) have the prices posted (sometimes), but they can change the site prices and nobody knows, but here, it shows when a thread or post was last modified.  Like those commercials that make you call for the price so they can sales pitch you or change price, and you have no proof that they "said" this amount.  This is NOT a "bash the other guys", I just believe that at least the proshop people should post them, as they are professional businesses, and that can help keep the price warring in control.  This is just my humble opinion, and I expect that there will be some disagreement, BUT frankly my friends, I can neither stop that, nor care.  This applies to the proshop guys, NOT the personal sales done by joe user.

Zack,

That is great, if you are a individual selling stuff, but a business should set a price, that way people will know whether they want to even contact them.  This will reduce the price wars over Lane 1 stuff because everyone will know the price of each shop.  When they are not posted, what happens is that someone (like Doug) is honest enough to commit to a price, then another guy sells 10 dollars cheaper.  This is just so that the gouging and cut-throat does not get out of hand, afterall if the price is fair to begin with, why can't they just post it, and be committed?  As for taking offers by individuals (i.e. myself), I like to entertain offers Iif I am selling, BUT I am not a business.

Dave,
Would your post read the same if Doug was the only one NOT posting prices?
We all know you and many others have had successful deal with Doug. Heck, I
have done business with Doug also. His services were no better or no worse than
many other internet transactions I have had.

Let him and the other ball sellers run their businesses the way they see fit.
If some are undercutting others, they will eventually be out of business.

Are you on a commission?

No I am not on commission, and I probably would not have noticed it, if Doug were not the ONLY one doing it.  Either way, the thread was not to brag on Doug or slam on anyone, but to get people to think and consider the point, of posting prices.  You see, by doing so, it is a commitment, wheras iff you do not post them, they can be raised or lowered as needed to gouge the competitioYes, I realize that is commerce, but there are  better ways to make a profit, without gouging prices, just because you are big enough to handle taking a loss, in order to boost sales.  This is just my opinion, and noone has to agree with it, as it does not affect National Security, the National Debt, nor anyone's paycheck.  Thanks for your comments.
