Today's Bowling Balls - Only be drilled for length?
« on: February 17, 2009, 03:08:41 AM »
Most balls today are oil sucking machines. With more and more bowlers having these sponges, does it make sense to reduce the flare on these balls?

Is there any style out there that needs a ball to start up early?

Of course there are reasons... flooded lanes and long patterns, over/under conditions, people who have a track that doesn't cover a large area, etc.

Can you expand upon the "people who have a track that doesn't cover a large area" idea?  Are you talking about the track diameter?

Yeah. If you've got a guy who spins the ball, he's going to need surface and probably a ball that wants to change directions early, because his release is going to give him all the length he needs.

Ok.. thanks. I guess that is why pin down and anything less than 4.5" to pap doesn't work that well for me.  My track diameter is pretty large. I cover alot of ball surface

I used to have the same problem.  Would have to use a lot of high pin layouts.  I have slowly migrated to a little more tilt and lower track so my options aren't quite as limited now.
