should I be using 16lb equipment
« on: February 23, 2011, 01:52:21 PM »
I had a wrist injury a few years ago and went to15 lb balls and thought I was doing ok. I recently started loosing weight and excersizing and all of a sudden everything I throw is wide right with no recovery. I am really fighting to keep the bALLS ONLINE and nothing I throw is moving.

Today I decided to practice with my 16 lb odyssey and it was much more consistent then my 15 lb stuff. Tonight in league play I threw that and my phenom unleashed, these are the last 2 16s I have and before today hadnt thrown them for two years. I did find myself geting tired, but i did manage to shoot a 700 series in a house where I have never done that before. My drill set up on the 16s is different, longer span and more reverse thumb pitch, but I really had decent control, best I have had in weeks. Is it the drill or the weight, how can you tell. I am tempted to redrill some 15 lb stuff to see or should I buy a 16 in something I had been using, really hat wasting money on a fluke, but tonight is the best I have bowled in awhile. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Having a Different grip - span more than likely is 99% of the issue.....  so you could try with 1 or 2 of your 15lb stuff with your old drill specs..... and see how it goes.......

I too dropped to 15 for a while.  I had to go back to 16 as 15, even though its only a pound, threw my game off, timing etc, and  I was inconsistent.  BUT before spending money on a new 16 I would match the span and pitches on a 15, plug one your not using and see how it goes.

I've tried dropping down to 15 a couple times on a experimental basis and each time I felt like that my carry went down significantly.

But if the spans are different (I'm going through something similar with my thumbholes and pitches because of being away from the game for a while), I would try redrilling one of the 15's like someone had mentioned first before making an ultimate decision.
