Should I bowl there anymore?
« on: January 01, 2004, 06:26:23 PM »
I bowled a few weeks ago in a house that is about 1 1/2 hours from here.  Some friends there asked me to come down and sub with them and get together.  I might have shot 620.

They run a 5 game sweeper there every Sunday and invited me down so a couple of weeks ago I bowled it.
I'm a lefty and was the top lefty in the field with a +52 for 5.  It took +188 to get a check.

They ran a 16 gamer yesterday and I bowled.  The field wasn't that strong but did have a Team USA member and a Lefty who is a PBA regional champion.  Once again, I was the top lefty with a +130 for 16 while it took +418 to get a check.

The shot doesn't seem that bad but it was pretty easy to miss a little left and leave a bucket along with leaving 30 some 7 pins.

The righties killed that place and guys were crying about "only being +300" while some pretty good lefties where even or a little above.  I played all over the lanes, used every ball in my bag and still couldn't get a reaction that would allow me to shoot any big games.

There are two righties in that house that average over 230 and they both bowled a regional not long ago and both averaged in the 170's for their 9 game block.

Is this a house that I don't need to bowl in anymore?  I've never been one to walk away for a shot and I like the fact that they run some good scratch stuff but I feel that I've bowled there 3 times and have even thrown the ball pretty good to have such a low scoring average there.  The top lefty in that house is about 207.

As I said, I hate to give up but I don't want to continue to beat my head against a wall and paying money out when there hasn't been a way to keep up the scoring pass with the righties in that house.

seems to me you found a house the all the righties here would love since we are constantly being bashed because we are gifted.

Well, Bones always said that Lefty's are "wrong siders" and who can argue with Bones experience, knowledge and wisdom?

The same thing could apply when there is a lefty house and it seems like the lefties kill the place while the righthanders struggle.

Would you, as a righty, continue to go there only to be beat like a drum by every lefty who enters?

I personally would not go back.

If you feel you had a good performance, about as good as you can give, and are coming up that short then why contribute?

I wouldn’t continue to go to a house that every lefty cashed and the top 5 were all left handed so I wouldn’t expect a lefty to do the same either.

Just as some houses/shots will overly favor the left they can favor the right as well.

Hose, my first reply to your topic was meant to be a joke. Seriously in answer to your question, no I would never-never go back.

Brickdude,  I knew you were joking.

Mongo,  I have enough friends   I don't go there just to have a good time.
Everytime I lace up my bowling shoes, I expect to win or have a good showing.  Three times and not being close gets me pretty mad.  In a way I'd like blow the house off but then again, I hate to let something beat me the way that house has.

At the 5 game sweeper, I talked a dude into going with me and he gets third.  At the 16 gamer, I took another cat and he gets second.  Neither one asked me if they could give me some gas money

It sounds like there is a playable shot, since if you're leaving that many 7 pins, you're obviously able to get to the pocket.  Seems to me the problem is just carry.  You've seen the shot, ask around and see what you can try to carry on that condition - maybe a different drilling/ball/coverstock prep, or possibly even a change in your release (more forward roll and less side roll?)  C'mon, Hose, think man!  I bet you could figure out how to toss them thunderstrikes if some HOT CHICKS were watching!  Do it just to pi$$ off whoever is trying to shut you out! Good Luck - I'd hate to see THE HOSE so easily admit defeat to us who use the correct hand! LOL.

Nine,  HOT CHICKS?   Geez Dude are you kidding?  That is part of the problem, the tournament was in Ark.   I said that all day long about the hose not being able to toss Thundestrikes with HC's there.   There were a couple of skanks there and I asked to watch.  207 clean with nothing but the back row.

I think it's your duty to donate some entry fees there to make up for all the money you've stolen from the lefty houses (the other 99%).

Hose,

I think this is an ideal place for you to bowl ... practice. That is, if you cannot find a closer place in which to practice a hard scoring shot; assuming, of course, you want or need to practice. Most of have trouble finding places with difficult shots to enhance our shot making ability. I would go there for 10 game blocks to see how accurate I could be.

I wouldn't recommend you bowl tournaments here, unless you learn that they've made the conditons more equitable. No sense donating more. Subbing is always fun, as long as you have no problem with a 90 minute commute and you stay out of pots and brackets you have no chance to win. That is, again, as long you enjoy just bowling with friends.

Now those are true friends

On a serious note, I would look at maybe finding a used ball and try a new layout, just for this house. And with my stupid competitiveness would probably hurt myself trying to succeed.

Hose, whatever you decide, let us know.

Hose, if you can afford to lose money and you're having a good time, then keep going. But if you can't afford to lose money and/or you're not having a good time, don't go back..!! =:^D
