should i sell my roto grip mutant and buy a ebonite mission?
« on: February 19, 2010, 11:24:37 PM »
i like the way the mutant rolls but have not been able to used it a ton. im in between with this ball on my house shot. to much ball for up the boards and as i moved in deep, this ball rips back and leaves a lot of ringing 10s. thats why i have under 10 games on this ball.

i also have these balls which work well for me on my house shots and tourneys:

jigsaw corner
jigsaw
solid uranium
cell pearl
hot sauce pearl

so will the mission overlap these? i know i also need a dry lane ball but really never run into a problem because i can follow the oil in when they start to dry.

thanks

My goodness, sounds like what we saw last nite...

Had him move up a half step....

And he started to carry...

One side of the house had a decent shot, the other side was like the parking lot...

Two different oil machines....

Polish it or bag it.

IF you hit the pocket, its not the ball.  If you can physically get the ball to the pocket than you NEED TO LEARN HOW TO ADJUST TO CARRY.

You must learn when you need to switch the ball, only after you have made all of your carry % physical changes.

If you hit the pocket, you have won more than half the battle.  Its now the small things to change pin carry.

Nobody wants to learn how to make small pocket adjustments.  They want to switch balls.  Why switch balls?  You have a line, your hitting the pocket, your zeroed in.  All you need to do is change your roll with finger positions, or step back, forward on the approach, maybe make a 1/2 board move either way.  Simple tiny pocket carry % moves.

The answer to high scores, and being a great bowler is not in the ball.  Its in the manipulation of the ball roll.

man i know how to carry. im averging 219 and 216 in my leagues this year. i also have 3-300, 3-299, 1-298, 2-800 including a 844 with 33 out of 36 strikes (299-278-267) and 4 back 11 290 games and 1 back 11 278 game. all honor scores are from 2 different houses. 1 old wood and 1 synthetic.

you can look me up on bowl.com if you want (member id: 338-30906). 1-299 and 1-800 is not up yet since i shot that 1 weeks ago with my jigsaw corner.

im looking for ball advice on which ball is better. been hearing great things on the mission. if you read my original post i dont carry a dry lane ball since i can follow the oil line inside. so that should tell you i can adjust.

What you posted about your average, and moving inside has nothing to do with adjusting or being a great bowler.

Your problem is not the Mutant Cell.

Make a cover stock surface change first before you sell the ball.

PS - Your personal FIGJAMs do not mean much, other than personal achievement.   FIGJAMs do not replace good advice or sharing good knowledge.  FIGJAMs on house conditions are just that FIGJAMs

In all honesty, you do not need a Mutant Cell, Jigsaw and Jigsaw Corner.  Overlap, Overlap, Overlap.

The best advice would be to go to your pro shop and ask him to help you plan an arsenal that makes sense.  If your pro shop is pumping out high end after high end ball for you, than you need to find a better pro shop that wants to build arsenals over pumping out balls.   If your requesting high end after high end ball, take the time on your next purchase to ask the pro shop what he thinks about your arsenal choices.

Put the tools (balls) in your tool box, and replace them when they only get worn out.

my mutant cell is drilled for heavy oil. jigsaw corner is my longest sharpest ball, jigsaw is early and smooth. both pearls are for medium oil with 1 that rolls early and one thats longer to get past carry down. my pro shop guy is fine and laid these balls out the way i wanted.  i may have overlap on having medium-heavy bowling balls but they all make a different move to the pocket and are good for different lines. and medium-heavy is what i see the most in my area. so thats my main reason to drill these. i tried the mutant cell at box, 4000 grit and with polish. just not a huge fan.

i bowl a lot of scratch and handicap tourneys and do well. that money won goes back into bowling balls.

and i do not just bowl on house shots, i do sport shot where i average 202 and have the second high average in the league. it because i make my spares and get that double here and there. this is what makes me a better house bowler.

i can play a line from 5 board to 20 board. straight or a full wheel. im asking about the balls because i like to drill up a ton of stuff. you come chiming in on my game. you never seen me bowl so you can not say its me and not the ball.

mediumrevs15--when I first saw your ball line up I did think it was kind of redundent (especially the hot sauce/cell pearl)--but your explanation does make sense--besides there's no reason to put up with the crap some people write--it's your $$, buy whatever you want

I have a mission and a mutant.Unfortunately drilled the same way,and they are identical in shape reaction and lane use. When i can use one i could use the other. The mutant oob was a sled,no back end at all. I know you guys are gonna say not enough oil,but if a ball slides 60 ft. to the three pin and i switch to another ball that moves, breaks down the lane and then i can use the oiler i say its not handling the shot. If i can play a ball 3rd game ,but not first game I have a hard time believing burn up,and thats what i am seeing with these two balls. If you have the mutant and a jigsaw corner i have no clue what you need ,but its not a mission.
