icon, let me start by wishing you well. i have had 7 surgeries, 3 on non-bowling, 4 on bowling shoulder. it sounds like you might have a tear in your labrum tendon which is a tendon that goes from the front of shoulder to the shoulder itself, i had that on the left. if you hold your arm out straight and someone pushes down and you have no resistance and your arm collapses, that would be it, it should hurt on the top and the front. you can try rest depending on your job, but if it's a sharp pain, it sounds like a tear. i have been out of work for about 18 months with my 6 that i have had, but if things go right and you need surgery, they say 4-6 months. if you can get to a specialist, that would be my suggestion, i went to a ortho surgeon and am in the process of filing a suit against him, he left a screw that was supposed to be countersunk in the bone sticking out about 1/4". i wish i had better news, but that would be my guess, you really need a mri to see if it's a tear, good luck and let us know the news.
