Shut your mouth house mouse
« on: January 16, 2011, 10:30:29 PM »
I bowl in a PBAX League at a local house, and have a very good time averaging 180 in it LOL. I enjoy the challenge and I enjoy learning to be a better bowler.

One night I am waiting for a group of friends to finish Their Last game in the Mens Handicap League  a guy I know  calls me stupid for wanting the challenge, calls me an idiot for wanting to bowl in league where my average won't be 220+. According to him their is very little difference between PBA Patterns and THS. I asked if he wanted to back his mouth and he avoided the question kept at ripping me, I just walked away, their is no arguing with stupid.

IMO this is one issue with League bowling, Whenever some one wants to get better their is some one else who is putting them down, calling it stupid, why would you wanna get better at what you do? I don't know cause some take pride in doing something and doing it well? Seriously,

You would expect more from a grown adult...or maybe not.

Thanks for any comments, and thanks for listening I have needed to vent that.

Some people truly are the worst.  Who is HE to tell YOU what you should or shouldn't do/enjoy?

I agree.  I just think it's unfortunate that it exists and we must see it.  That's all i'm saying.

Its the same reason why some people work hard to improve their status in life, and why others are satisfied with a warm couch and a cold beer.

You did the right thing.  As soon as he wouldn't back up his big mouth, you had him.

That is one of the things wrong with bowling today, not many want any challenge, just give me the jewelry....

The is a direct quote from a exempt pro, and three time  winner  It's about the state of bowling.

Maybe you have seen it before.

The easiest way i can put this is .From Tiger Woods to #300 in the world. Putt them all on the driving range. Give them a list of shots to hit. Left to right. right to left. low . hi. flop. doesnt matter. They all look the same, and hit the same shot. They were taught CORRECTLY. Now. Take WRW Jr to the 100th ranked bowler and put them all on a lane. Give them a list of shots to throw. End over end up 5, big tilt with a lot of curve from 5th arrow to the gutter. back up ball. whatever. Once you get past #20 on that list of bowlers, shit starts to go hay wire. Me included. If you cannot swing it correctly there simply are things you cannot do in this sport. We simply teach and preach the wrong things in our sport to the wrong people. You. The consumer. Just because I got new irons and a new driver doesnt mean im going to break par or be a scratch golfer, why is it when people get a new wristbrace and a ball they expect to avg 200 or higher when they have not fully grasped the notion that they are undereducacted on what it takes to truly become a GOOD bowler. not even a great one....

I personally love the Challenge of the PBAx 10 week and Summer Sport Leagues we have here...It has definately made me a more consistant bowler. It was funny to see one of the House Hot Dogs pack his gear after 1 game on a PBA pattern... Hurt his Ego...

When we were trying to start a sport league at our house we asked whO we all felt were the best bowlers.... And many said something solon the lines 'our house shots hard enough why bowl on something harder' which I agree our house shot is pretty tough for a 'house shot' but still the challenge is fun for many but them.

Just a few examples on how tough the house shot is at our house
One guy averages 240 on a easy house shot, he averages 216 here
Another guy is right around 230 in one house and he's around 204 here
I averaged 210 at a easier house and usually hover around 190-200 here

The problem for me is the lack of oil. When your taking 3 balls to league a recon, natural, and plastic and rarely use the recon there isn't much oil

House Mouse sez: "I just wanna relax, have a bunch of beers, look at nudie cards, and shoot gigantic scores!  After working all day, the last thing I want to do is think and try to figure out some stupid lane condition!  Anyone that feels different is stupid and maybe they need to get a job where they have to work real hard like I do."

Interviewer asks: "And what is that, Mr. House Mouse, that you do for a living?"

House Mouse sez: "I flip burgers for McDonalds.  Real high stress stuff.  You don't want to accidentally put the special Big Mac sauce on a quarter pounder!"

he sounds like a wuss that has no balls and is ignorant. I have averaged at least low 200's for a few years and tried just the summer PBAX league and ended up averaging 160. I should have done at least a little better but I gave it a try and will do it again. The only reason I"m not in it right now is because my stupid house moved it from a 7pm 3 man league to a 930 Tuesday night doubles league so no way I would do that. I'm very glad I didn't because I was told it disolved very shortly. But if they could get at least a 3 man game with 4 games to a better night I should be in as long as I can make it.

It would be expected that a confident adult would not be bothered by what other people say and not get

into a fray like this where there can be no winner.

I have a question, I have been called a "House Mouse" (in which I take with a grain of salt) only because I elect to bowl in one center.  It is the newest center in my home area and is only a 1.5 mile drive from my home.  I average 220+ in this house and even averaged 230 in one of my two leagues last season.

I work nights and only have the option to bowl on wednesdays, thursdays or fridays, I choose to bowl on weds and fri.  Now, I have averaged 200+ for several years regardless of where I bowl, even when I bowled Regionals in the early 90"s I had a composite average of 200+.  Is it fair that I'm classified as a "House Mouse" or am I just a good THS bowler?

If I had a PBAX league available to me to bowl in, I would definitely jump on the opportunity to do so, but those types of leagues don't exist around here or the rare ones that do are on nights in which I work.

I am not defending the "House Mouse" but in all fairness there are those who just excel on the THS when that is all that is available for them to bowl on.

Where im from we have a few "scratch" guys who take it a step farther. They claim to want tough conditions at most every local tournament in the area. If anybody averages over 210 for a tournament they claim the lanes were walled up. We have several regional tournaments most months, and the Lanesharks tour which use Kegel and Pba patterns, but these "scratch" bowlers wont support regionals and Lanesharks. Reason being, at the local level they are the big fish in the pond, but taken to the regional level they cant compete. But, they are the first ones to complain at the local level about poor turnouts for tournaments.

Im old school, ill bowl you in the parking lot if thats what we agree on. I dont bowl for the money, its because i love the game and i constantly strive to get better. My point is, its not just house mouses that have this mentality of not wanting to get better, its scratch bowers too. Its gotten to where money is the most important thing in bowling now days.
