Significant gap?
« on: March 22, 2009, 10:01:37 AM »
I'm not sure if I should put something between my Hy-Road and Mars (coming soon). The Hy-Road is drilled 4 1/4" from my PAP, pin over ring finger. Mars will be drilled 5" from my PAP, pin under my middle finger. I'm not sure if I should put something between those two. Usually I go from my Virtual Gravity to my Pin Slasher to my Hy-Road. But as I found out yesterday, the Hy-Road, even in it's polished state, is quite strong. If you have any suggestions, along with a pin to PAP distance, I'd appreciate it.

I do have an Ogre Pearl drilled 4 3/4" from my PAP, pin above bridge. Do you see this as a good fit, or does it still seem too strong to be a step above the Mars? I don't want to drill the Mars any stronger, I'd rather just fill something in if need be.

I was thinking a ball like the Doom would be a good fit. Any other balls on the market similar in hook potential to the Doom?

The vibe series is much stronger than I expected it to be. I had the cherry vibe, probably the best heavier-medium house shot ball I've ever owned. The Storm Street Rods should fill the gap also, I have a negative-pin SR pearl thats about as strong as my cherry vibe was.

The Ogre Pearl is a stronger ball that the Vibes in that it handles more oil and is earlier rolling. It is a true medium oil ball unless you have high ball speed and low revs. Even with that drilling, which will allow it to go slightly longer, it will still handle a good deal of oil. It's kind of a quarter to a half step down, from the Hy-Road.

I think you'll find the Mars a fairly strong ball also even with a 5" pin. The Planet line has strong covers with mild, low flare cores. I'd guess it was, in tunr, about a half step down from the Ogre Pearl, in oil handling.

All in all, that's a strong mid range arsenal, from medium-heavy to medium light: PinSlasher to Hy-Road to Ogre Pearl to Mars.
