AMF houses give the card to their league bowlers at the start of the season. The desk person is supposed to scan the card for the discounts on lineage, snack bar and such. If you don't have the card how can they scan it?
About a month ago while working the desk I asked a female customer if she bowled in any of our leagues. (I had never seen her before.) She said "yes" and suspecting a lie I asked her "which one?" She answered the "Friday night one". I told her "we don't have a Friday night league at this center" and charged her full price on everything. She didn't even argue because she was caught and she knew it. We can print a master list of all our league bowlers that is easy to refer to in a few seconds if needed.
People who pull out their USBC card are a dead giveaway that they don't bowl in one of our leagues. Being a sub in our leagues doesn't count either. As was mentioned earlier, houses want to reward their league bowlers for their loyalty and patronage week in and week out.
I never ask for or expect league rates at a house that I don't bowl in as a league member. It appears that the rest of the replies so far agree...
