Something that you could try to increase ball speed would be to raise how high you hold the ball in the beginning of your approach.

Increase foot speed and hold the ball lower.

Those that can do. Those that can't complain. Pimpin ain't easy, but it's mandatory.

This.

And the more obvious you are already taking care of.  The addition of ball speed from foot speed will require your knee to take a little more abuse.  You have done a great job with the weight you have lost and I am willing to bet the continued weight loss and exercise will raise your ball speed naturally.

I am also a big guy and even older than you are (60).  When I try to force the speed I run into other timing issues.

My recommendation is to get a polished ball with a less aggressive coverstock and less agressive drilling pattern for the 3rd game or whenever the speed falls off.  Let the speed be what it will be and just throw the ball naturally.  Don't try to force it or you will find yourself losing pins due to bad timing.

Bigz,

Are you throwing your Urethane ball in the 3rd game?
