Particle Ball for Carrydown?
« on: February 25, 2009, 11:08:08 AM »
Situation last night at league. The best league in the house is Monday evenings so the new management lays down more oil than usual just before league. Then Tuesday morning and afternoon there are Senior leagues, with most folks throwing plastic down the middle.

Then we show up for 7 P.M. Tuesday league and the back ends are full of oil that has been carried down for more than 24 hours. They will not strip and re-oil before our league like they used to, prior to the management change.

So, the question is, will a particle ball cut through the carrydown oil well enough to allow it to get to the pocket or should on just throw something milder straight up the boards?

IMHO, you are not limited to particle. A sanded surface ball with an early rolling setup (e. g. a 4x3 setup, or a strong label drilling) could also be an option.
The charm of particle pieces is that they create friction as sonn as they touch the lane. Since the v´carrydown "happens" further down, it is IMHO not the optimal solution, just like CGsSuK stated. You need head oil, and syou might still need a steup that allows the ball to roll earlier.
But a polished particle piece or particle pearl could be the answer if the heads tend to be thin when you are to play.

Our league took a vote to have fresh oil before league starts and the management of our house oiled it for us.
