Simple Green ?!
« on: September 30, 2004, 11:06:57 PM »
If I good understand SIMPLE GREEN is normal kitchen cleaner ?!
Lots of people suggest to mix it 1 to 1 with water.

1. Do you use also normal bowling cleaner (before, after use green) ??
2. It's safe for reactive and particle coverstocks ???

Thanks for help.

I carry Simple Green (mixed with water) in a small spray bottle (i.e. the size of a small Armor All) in my bag that I use during and after practice.  Works well, IMO.  I use it on resin and particle.  For deeper cleansing, look into other ball cleaners (i.e. Track and Ebonite, to mention have some that are quite good).

I've used simple green in water to soak balls and it works well. There are directions on the bottle that tell you how much water to mix in depending on how concentrated you want the stuff. It cuts through grime and oil fairly well, but nothing works as well as normal ball cleaner. Track's Clean & Dull takes off belt marks and grime better than anything that I've seen/used. However, using a pumice-based cleaner like Go-Jo or Fast Orange works well also. You have to be careful however, because that stuff is abraisive and will alter the coverstock finish like a scotchbrite if you scrub too hard. Trial and error is what you need. As long as you're not baking or blow-drying balls, nothing you do should hurt them that bad. Good luck.

Jack, I have both the Storm Reacta Clean and Neo Tac's "Liquid Nitro". I prefer the Liquid Nitro. Here's why.... I can clean my ball with the Reacta Clean and then reclean with the Liquid Nitro and get more dirt/oil off the ball. However, if I clean with Liquid Nitro and then follow with the Reacta Clean, I don't get anymore dirt/oil off the ball.....I can also clean my ball with Simple Green-water mixed 50-50 and then follow up with either of the already mentioned cleaners and I don't get any more dirt/oil off the ball.....This tells me that the Simple Green-Water mix cleans just as good as either of the cleaners.....The Simple Green-Water mix is cheaper and seems to work as well if not better but I use the ball cleaners as that is what they were specifically designed for.

The best combination I've found is using the Simple Green concentrate mixed with rubbing alcohol.  I mix them 50-50 and have great results!

Have to agree with Ernie here. I have been using a 50/50 mix of simple green and alcohol for awhile and it works great. I do have a slight advantage as I can get the 99% alcohol which helps out even more. But it is a good cleaner IMO and is ABC approved.

Interesting!  I'll have to try this as I'm already using Simple with water as a cleaner during my bowling.

I also use Simple Green and Isopropyl alcohol (3 to 1).  I use it after every league and practice session.  So far it seems to be working because I have a Track Threat with about 150 games on it and it is still going strong.

And, yes, it is ABC legal.  I was even allowed to use it to clean some nasty belt marks off of my Track Dry Heat back in July at the California ABC Tournament.

I put my balls in my dishwaser (4 at a time), spray the heavily with simple green and run it through a cycle. The heat, water, and degreaser works great for deep cleaning.  I make sure to turn off drying after the cycle.

We don't like to admitt it but it's true. It is a good general cleaner for most lane oils, but what i like most about it( other than it's dirt cheap) is that it seems to work better on belt and rubber marks than any other product i have ever seen.

I will also note that i use track clean and dull on everything i own and it is indeed a very good cleaner but i have had success with many products.

all a person would need is a bottle of clean and dull, some simple green, and a small 3m scotch brite sponage and a small bottle of polish to keep your entire arsenal in really good shape.

I've been using my "secret formula" for quite a while now, and it works sooooo good. I occasionally mix some for my friends. I take a small plastic "hospital saline solution bottle" - they're squarish and I think they hold around 8 ounces. I put about 1/4" of CONCENTRATED Simple Green in the bottom - follow that with about another 1/4" of CONCENTRATED Windex - then I fill up the remainder of the bottle with rubbing alcohol. Great cleaner, works on everything. The hospital bottle has a fantastic seal and NEVER leaks. One warning - it tastes very very very bad. Never ever set it down OPEN next to your water bottle, and always pay attention to what you're drinking
