skid/flip question

Every time I read something about a skid/flip ball, its always how its TOO flippy. People say "Its too dry to have a skid/flip ball" or "Its too heavy to have a skid/flip ball" so is medium conditions really the only time to have this type of reaction from a ball?

It's all preference.  Some people can never control a skid/flip reaction, no matter the lane condition.  Others can use that type of reaction on just about anything.  

Personally, I've never seen it too dry for a skid/flip.  That's usually when the hockey stick works best, when I need something to really get through the front, and then make the big turn, because if I try to play it tight, the ball hooks early and crosses.

Hey BK,

I also agree with everything said above.  The times I've seen skid/flip balls work is in the individuals game.  A lower rev player can make use of the reaction because it helps them recover well in the backend and a strong power player (flinger) who stands left and throws right can also make use of it fairly well because it allows them to recover from deep angles.  It's usually the tweener (majority of us) who gets a little O/U with this type of reaction on a fresher non-blended condition.  Hope this helps explain a little...

Given an easy shot, I'll throw a skid flip ball almost all the time.  Once things get a little messy and I get some over under, out come something more arc like.

The people I see having success with skid/flip balls have excellent speed control and know how to adjust to the breakpoint.
