Title: Slide foot question
Post by: UtahBowler on May 14, 2004, 02:33:00 AM
I'm having trouble with keeping my slide foot from turning in. Do you guys have any drills to help with this? It's really hurting my revs/balance.

Thanks!

Your slide foot should turn slightly.  When you stop your slide your toe should be slightly pointed away from you bowling hand.  If your a righty, then your left toe should end up at around 10:00, if you were looking down on a clock face.  If you are not doing this it can be corrected by having a shoemaker change your heal.  You have smooth leather placed in a horseshoe pattern on the outside and the sued side on the inside.  Bill Taylor showed this to me, but my toe points correctly without the shoe modification.  If my instructions aren't descriptive enough, you could send me your address and I'll draw a picture for you.

actually it would be better for ure slide foot to point towards ure bowling hand which could stop u from pulling the ball ( not saying that u have that problem)

Toe

When I get it right, I get much better speed control and it really revs up.

so just practice sliding straight then pointing ure foot in towards ure bowling hand when coming close to ure stop, that could also give u some more axis tilt and a better roll overall

Does this happen before or after the release of the ball?

I had always thought the slide foot was supposed to stay straight.  Last year I went to Magic Carpets gathering in NC.  Ron had me start turning the toe of my slide foot out.  Stopped me from falling off the shot to the right when I had late timing, stopped me from rearing up when I had early timing.

If you look at your slide foot, which would be forward, you have the toe and the heel for the front base, your trail leg is the 3d point forming a triangle.  Keeping the toe pointed staight down the lane gets all 3 points in a straight line and effects balance.

To correct it, all Ron had me do was concentrate on turning my toe to the left as I went into the slide.

Earl Anothony always preached this. If I am not mistaken, he also said this also increases your leverage thus giving you a stronger ball.

My problem is not keeping the foot of my trail leg on the floor. I fall off the shot a lot, thus stepping to the right with the trail leg/foot.
