Slide Sock Praise
« on: November 08, 2009, 08:06:48 AM »
Im a big guy ~250. My knees cant take planting... I am 49 and have been bowling 35 years competitively. Today approaches kill me, especially when there is humidity outside.

I have used those cheap slide socks and found the to be like ice. So I noticed Smash49 signature and gave them a try. I ordered one and have used it now in all three houses I bowl for two weeks. All I have to say is "consistancy". Others have problems... and I dont. I got the best one, with the side edges for like 10.99 and 2 for shipping or so. THE BEST INVESTMENT i have ever made, period, in my bowling.

My only complaint was that it took over almost two weeks for delivery. They said they had a big order or something. Maybe they did but for me I am buying another one to keep as a spare.

+1.  And remember, when you wear a hole in the sock you can turn it inside out and use it until that side gets a hole.  Be sure to break the new side in per instructions.  --  JohnP

Thank you Pin-Chaser!

We are trying to streamline operations more this year in our workshop.  We moved last year and still do not have everything where we want it.  We do supply one of the largest bowling distributors in the country and when they order a large order laser cutting can take a little bit longer than normal.  We keep a very very limited amount of product premade.  The good thing is that processes are starting to speed up.  Sandra has also been having issues with the Oklahoma weather.  Two hospital visits last month.  Hopefully our orders will get out a lot faster in the near future.

It's better!  I'm a large guy and their socks haven't failed me once!!!  Wear them on my SST6 LX and about to purchase a pair for my Tour Ultras.

Smash49,

I tried to email Sandra, but my email was returned as not deliverable.  Maybe you can answer a question for me.

I want to get a slide sock for my wife, but want to know which model would be recommended for typical women''s shoes.  She wears a size 6 1/2 Etonic bowling shoe, which looks like an athletic shoe and is fairly narrow, definitely not one of the wide-soled shoes like my Dexter SSTs.  Which model and size would probably work best for her?  Thanks.

Your wife would most likely like the Premier I or if you want something a little different an Encore I.  I know Sandra wears Linds size 6 tennis shoe types and she has a plain white Premier I.   I have small feet myself and wear a liquid gold Encore I (My feet are mens 6 1/2).  The Premier's are made in about 12 different colors and the Encore's are Liquid gold, silver, ruby red, liquid black, and a few others.  I also wear an Anaconda Encore I.

Sandra's Emails are the following.

Still the best.  I have been using them for several years now and I have a few steady customers here in NoCal.  Best testimony is when or where ever I bowl and I hear someone say they are having issues with the approaches, I never seem to have a problem.  Not sure how it works, but the sock actually seems to adjust to the approach.  Very strange, but having ankle and knee issues from my high school sports days, I really appreciate never having to worry about it.  This weekend I bowled the State Senior tournament and a few of my teammates commented that the team center approaches were very slick and the singles/doubles center approaches were a little sticky.  Did not notice any of that.

These sound pretty good, so we'll give them a try.  Just ordered one for the wife, who has always used the cheap ones (hers has a hole in it now), and one for me to try out, even though I don't usually have a problem at the local lanes.  Definitely have run into some slick approaches at tournaments elsewhere though, so I'll have these on hand "just in case".

Thanks to everyone.  Sandra is in Dallas this week at the doctors and buying fabrics.  She should be back Friday and will have most of the orders for the week out by Monday.  I will field the calls to the toll free number as they come in.

I've seen a few people wearing slide socks, but are there different kinds?  At least the ones this topic is about sound pretty special.  Do they defeat the purpose of having a shoe with interchangeable soles?  My initial thought is that I would slide way too much with these like I did with the H7 red heel when I tried that.

There are various makers of slide socks.  I have only used the Bowler's Slide Sock and am extremely satisfied.  Yes, they eliminalt the need for interchangeable soles, but interchangeable heels could still be an advantage.  As far as sliding too much, that hasn't been a problem for me, but I like to slide a lot.  My recommendation is to buy one and try it.  If you don't like it, you haven't wasted much $$ and may be able to give (or sell) it to someone else who will like it.  --  JohnP
