Put together this video to show my release in slow motion. Let me know what you think!

Makes you wonder what the long term effects will be on a bowlers elbow that has that kind of whip action in their swing.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

I think we need the Konica Minolta Bizhub swing vision to get a good look.

Shouldn't have any if you do it right.  It's not like a pitcher throwing a baseball, and as long as you don't muscle it, you shouldn't wear your elbow out.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

Depends on the action in the elbow. Sockets and joints do wear out simply from repetitive motion. Its generally that super thin layer of stuff that protects the actual bone.

If you watch the video along with similar style bowlers versus say a WWWJ or Parker Bohn ect the arm isn't straight and relaxed like a pendulum.

It has a jerk to it, with the elbow especially. That isn't natural. It is a stress. Watch the 12sec-13sec mark on the elbow.

I agree kidlost2000 that down the road he going to have problems with elbow. Rick Steelsmith with high back swing shoulder surgery later on. One bowler that bend his elbow and keep it thru out the delivery is Don Carter.
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

I've always been envious of bowlers who crank the ball with so much torque, it gives them much higher advantage on a THS for leagues. So much more pin action then us straighter players but I have to agree that I'll be around a lot longer with less injuries then the crankers.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying.  I'm also saying it's possible to have that kind of motion without the muscling or jerking.  Like Sean Rash, he's got a pretty pronounced "whip" at his release.  I think just the use will wear it out, but I don't think it will accelerate it, and I suppose that's what I believed you were getting at.  Like the other poster said about Steelsmith, high backswing means shoulder problems, and whipping it like that will most likely cause elbow or wrist problems, though probably not shoulder problems.

With the way he whips it though he may be trying to learn to bowl left handed when he gets old. I would definitely be careful with it.

Sean Rash in slow motion will still have the same look. Smoother in real time doesn't mean its smooth. I would not want that motion on my arm/elbow long term. Revs don't equal score. It is the preception for those who want more area. More are has to equal higher scores right?

The kid has something going for him that can't be taught, hand speed.  He could tone it down and his rev rate will still be 400.  You have to remember he's a kid.  Nobody at 17 even worries about 18.  To me he looks like a cross between Fagan and Amleto.  Do you think either of those guys were as smooth at 17 as they are now?  As he gets a little older, wiser, stronger and an even better bowler than he already is, he will refine his game to compete at higher levels.

Right now he bowls JBT.  His only cares in the world are striking, hoping they put the girls in skirts on the high end of the house, and where we going to eat when we get done.
