I've been in a terrible slump over the past few weeks. Timing and consistency is not where it should be. Including league play, I've bowled 1-3 times per week since Sept 16. Do you bowl out of slumps or give it a rest for awhile?

Simplify EVERYTHING.
Make a small move outside (THS) and LET THE BALL HOOK instead of trying to MAKE it hook. If needed, back off the revs and just be ultra smooth at release. Many people who talk about slumps are often trying to "manipulate" ball reaction too much, and not repeating things as much as they think they are.
Take the attitude that crossing ___ amount of boards doesn't matter. It's the last 10-15 feet of lane that matter. Allow the lane friction to help you create a strong finishing ball, and if you'll relax then scores will take care of themselves. Good luck to you.

As an old guy that has gone through many slumps, the test advice I can give is:
go to your favorite house with your favorite ball.
Look at your mark and try to hit it. Do not try to hook it, keep it straighter. or any thing else. Just throw it at your mark. Let your body find its natural timing and and release. Do not think, just let it happen. The body will take care of itself.

Do like most typical bowlers.....buy a new ball.

Bowl left handed, jk, be patient and as mentioned, go back to basics, plain and simple ; If need be, take a week or two off as well.

I try to focus on the fundamentals
for me..my footwork gets me into trouble if I take to large of a 1st step, messes with the rest of my swing, etc
So I focus on 2 shorter steps and then it seems to align the rest fairly well
Its just like a simple 4 or 5 step casual walk in the park with a bowling ball you are swinging. nice and easy, ball does the work

If you're really throwing it like shit, yes, shut it down. Poor habits are easy to form and hard to break.

I also had a rough year bowling this year. I couldn't miss when I would practice, but when it came game time...my game went right out the window. A friend of mine suggested I remove myself from the bowling world this summer and use it as a mental reboot. Maybe you need to do the same thing...take a break.

When my first child was born in 09, I really dialed down the bowling. Like almost to nothing. Now, 8 years and 3 more kids later, I'm ready to Rev it back up into gear. But I will say that I now like being back in the center. It used to be a grind. So I broke the mold, and now I look at it with a clear head and all the bad muscle memory is gone. Take a break.

You have all the advise here as to what to do.... sometimes the reverse psychology is where it's at when you think to push through something, it's usually the wrong way to go; taking time away for a short period will do wonders for you, and your mind and body will thank you for it soon.

Work through it. Everyone has them (down times where nothing goes right) @ one time or another. Your bowling WILL improve, it's just a matter of time.

Go back to the basics and you will get out of your slump! I try not too think too much and just let it happen. Try to do the opposite of trying hardier. You will get out of your slump!
