Which Urethane Ball?
« on: September 22, 2003, 12:43:30 PM »
Hey everyone...

Not to get into too much detail, but I've been bowling on some really fried shots lately. The least hooking ball I currently own is a reactive Scout. This ball is drilled pretty weak, but is still coming up strong much of the time.

I'm now looking for a pearl urethane ball that still has a little bit of hit behind it. The only ones I'm aware of at the moment are the Ruby Scout and the XXL Buzzsaw... and from what I've heard about the Saw, it still moves quite a bit because of the block.

Any suggestions?

Might be worth trying the V2 Dry or the XXXL aswell. Maybe the Black Messenger, but i would say that would be way to strong given the core.

Hammer have brought out the red pearl urethane. Its a re-release of the old
urethane claws. There's also the original pearl urethane hammers you can find
on E-Bay.

There is also the Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle. Like the XXL, it is a pearl urethane with a dynamic 2 piece core. I would check on this and the Lane#1 before buying any 3 piece pancake core urethane.

Its actually a different ball.  The new one is three piece instead of having the original Hammer core.

I was practing on a pair with a guy who was using a scout reactive and I had my V2 dry( polished).

I have more "Hand" thaen he did and he was out hooking my ball. I had to point it from the 1 board and he was going 15 out to 5. It was still not finishing strong. It did hit the pins well.

I don't know if that is relavent but it loks like the V2 dry will be good on some real dry lanes. I just need to get on some and giv it a real test

I picked up a NIB black angle on ebay for this type of condition. It works great, and it only cost me $25. I drilled it legerage, and it actually flares about 2".

Personally, I would try and find one of the older pre-resin pearl urethanes.  The older urethane tended to have a decent weight block but without some of the strength associated with newer urethane coverstocks.

My suggestion would be the Gold Grenade, but they can be more difficult to find than the old Pearl Hammers.  On occasion, you might run across a Pearl U2, but the Hammer's seem to show up more frequently...

I had the same problem and gave the Hot Rod a try. Like with any ball for bowling on the sahara, you got to polish it to get it to kill off too much hook. Seems to be working okay so far.

I'm bowling in two winter leagues with Seniors .. talk about DRY ..WOW! Hard to keep ANY ball on the 1/3 pocket .. I recently picked up a VIPER .. all that I read indicated this ball WOULD NOT HOOK .. my findings agree .. however it's tough to throw the ball straight and get strikes .. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING THAT WILL HOLD THE LINE .. TRY A VIPER!
