Smaller bowling ball?
« on: November 05, 2008, 07:54:43 PM »
i was at a shop the other day and saw a ball that was NIB and it had a lightly smaller diameters than others.  i was just wondering as long as it was still in the legal size limit would their be any disadvantage to using that ball?

I've heard that a supposedly serious study established that slightly smaller bowling balls hit the pins lower thus causing more pin action. Don't remember seeing this in writing, though.

For a serious study about this take a look at the Ebonite side

it's almost always the indian and not the arrow
yes and i like this one also
don't go for a strike, go for a sure spare, we need 5 pins to win

The only downside I can think of is that the ball won't take many refinishings before it is below the legal size limit.  --  JohnP

its true some are slightly smaller...you can really tell when laying a ball out with a pro sect...it goes over some easily, and some tighter. What Ive heard is smaller ones actually hit a bit harder. I am not saying that, thats what Ive been told.

smaller balls make the cores seem larger. some studies say it affect the rg also. you will get a tad more revs on the ball too.

A smaller ball has a bigger pocket to hit, IMHO.

And also a bigger chance of leaving a 2-8-10...

That being said, I have had a couple balls with the logos totally gone from resurfacing---and I still would use them.
