Title: Smashed thumb
Post by: SVstar34 on August 07, 2017, 12:09:35 PM
Anyone bowled after losing their thumbnail from smashing their thumb?

I caught my thumb in a car door about a month ago and i thought i might get lucky and not lose the nail since it's been growing out. But it seems like it might fall off in the next couple of weeks now.

Looks like i might have to bowl left handed for a few months. Two handed bowling just doesnt work for me

I think at that point it may just be worthwhile to go on the disabled list.   :-\

Thumb Sock?

I didnt think of that but it could be a possibility. It'll just depend on how sensitive the nail bed is. Thanks for that

Sometimes you've just got to give up bowling for a while. Over the past 15 years, I've gone on the "disabled list" several times. Sometimes for 6 months or more. It sucks, but life isn't fair.

The nail will grow out again. In the mean time, life will go on.

If you are fitted properly I would think the bulk of the pressure on the thumb should be on the pad side of the thumb not the top where the nail is.

However that being said you might drag some on the nail side at times. You'll just have to see how uncomfortable it is.

My thought on the Thumb Sock is basically to keep the thumb together, like a bandage.

Some of us just can't stop bowling for any reason. A friend bowled with a broken ankle, I bowled with a dislocated shoulder. Not saying it was good, but we tried.

I think I would try to have a bandage underneath the thumb sock if i try that.

I had shoulder surgery a couple years ago and was back bowling in 6 weeks with a 13lb ball. I know it'll just depend on how it feels with the nail bed.

Id rather bowl left handed than not bowl for 2-3 months. I like bowling too much and bowling left handed is a different challenge that i feel i could maybe average 160ish on our house shot

I'll never understand this illogical take, and I have a passion for the game.

Don't get me wrong, you all do you, but I don't understand bowling injured.  Sure we all have a little nagging this or that (that's just part of the deal as bowlers), but to bowl with smashed thumbs, broken ankles and dislocated shoulders, that doesn't make any sense.  What's the point in bowling if you can't bowl to your potential?  How is that fun?  My God......

With some people (me included) there is nothing to try to understand or find logic in.  We are just wired differently.  Besides, playing with pain is something I've been doing for as long as I can remember, no matter what the sport or challenge is.
