There's Ebonite Sneaker Balls which I think are the equivilent of an air freshener in ball form.  Don't know how well they work.  Otherwise, might as well get a spray bottle of air freshener.

Try treating the source rather than the shoes.  Lots of different foot powders out there that will help your stinky feet.  Make sure you wear white socks and use bleach when you wash them, that'll help too.

There are also inserts that have charcoal in them that'll help absorb the stink.  If they bother you while bowling, just slip them in after you bowl and they'll work pretty good.

Good luck...smelly.

Spray the insides with Lysol every couple of weeks.

I keep a couple desiccant packs in mine when stored.  Just about any electronic device that you buy will have one packed inside.

A shot of shoe powder every no and then helps as well.

Better yet in my eyes is picking up a pair of cedar shoe trees.  Removes the odors and keeps the shoes in their proper form....

What works for me is something that was recommended to my by a guy that repairs shoes.

Buy some inserts that say "Activated Charcoal".  They absorb the moisture and the smell.  Haven't had a smelly pair shoes since I started using them.  You should be able to find them just about anywhere, like Wal-Mart.

I use the sneaker balls and they do work, you should be able to find them at any decent athletic shoe store. You will have to replace them every 6 months or so. They even kept my shoes from smelling those times in the summer when I didn't wear socks!  The other ideas (cedar shoe trees, Lysol, etc.) should work too.

I have a pair of Tour Ultras that I keep from smelling by giving them a chance to air out before I put 'em away.  As soon as I finish the 10th frame, I take 'em off, sprinkle a little baby powder in them, and sit them on the chair for 10-15 minutes while I pay out brackets and cards and chew the fat.  I don't really like that the bag they came with has no air vent holes to help keep them dry, nor does the ball bag I have.  Giving them a chance to dry before putting them up has kept them from getting too bad over the last four years.
