That is way too cool. Did it end up ruining the Hook Again chamber? I have a chamber that I want to keep usable but I can get a Bully display core as well so I am seriously consider doing this.

After we started pouring plug in the chamber (about 1/4 of the way) we realized we didn't line the inside with anything to prevent the plug from sticking to the chamber, so we lined the remainder of the chamber with vaseline.

When it was time to remove the ball, there was some problems where the plug had stuck to the plastic and damaging the chamber was necessary to getting the ball out. Not completely damaging, just a few cracks around the perimeter.

I would suggest lining the inside with vaseline before you pour any plug and make sure to keep an air-tight seal ( we taped the edges with packing tape) until the entire ball is dry.

Good Luck!!

The only problem is you couldn't use it in competition, as it's not USBC-approved.

JLB, what you did basically was build a Legends/LaneMasters ball with a Columbia core (i.e., coverstock all the way through). That was a helluva research project and there was a lot to learn from this. And I can't believe how much this ball hooks -- kind of brings into question just what ball plug is made of...

This is awesome! Congratulations to this great task, and also the nice documentation. That's guerilla bowling

A planet name is surely a good choice, when I first saw the ball it reminded me much of Jupiter or Saturn and its cloud/storm rings in the atmosphere.

Wow!

That is pretty cool. After drilling what was the final weighting? Make me wonder why get so concerned about 1/4 or 1/2 oz side/top weighting on balls.

Nice job Jon!!!

Out there in Cali, you got plenty of sand to make the "particle" version.  I'll be looking for that just in time for the Tour Trials next year!!  I'll bet the Insite and Banger guys have some "real" cores laying around you could use.

I think one point not brought up yet was the actual color scheme itself and how it seems to really make it easy to read ball motion. Making your own ball in itself was awesome, but the way the colors are laid out makes it really easy to see what the ball is doing as it travels down the lane. I don't know if you can patent and idea like that, but if you can I would since it really does aid in reading ball motion.

Still working on a name.....most people say it looks like a planet and have been suggesting Uranus be the name, I'm not sold on it yet.

Don't do that. People will keep asking you if they can see Uranus. Some people might even want to stick their fingers in Uranus.

LOL!!!

You beat me too that one!!

JLB....

If you take the ball to a Grave Headstone business. They can engrave a logo from a jpg on the ball.
