I have used blue painter's tape on the holes. I doubled up on the layers and it sticks and holds very well and comes off without leaving a residue.

I think someone said the soaking process will remove the polish from the ball. Not sure though as I've never done it on a polished one.

Question: Is there a limit as to how many times you soak the ball? For instance, should it only be done once a week at the most?

Yes it will. My big block diesel is a polished ball and yes it takes off all the polish so be prepared to repolish it. When i took it out the water it looked butt ugly because it didn't look right to me ,so i figured it out the polish was gone, got some on it and it looks brand new. Aside from the scratches and wear and tear on it.

to me i think u might have left it in a tad bit too long. My big block though is red and blue and i left it in for a couple of hours and it was just somewhat light but i repolished it, and it turned out like it was. Try polishing your absolute but u might've left it in too long cuz i put my zone in and oil came out instantly, and i only left it in for 9 minutes so maybe jus a lil bit too long.
