I had a great time at league last night.
Our house pattern (for our fun league) has always been a wall. Not just any wall, mind you, but the Great Wall of China! It seems so hard to learn proper technique on a wall because I can make so many mistakes and still be rewarded.
As I spoke with our league president last week, I suggested that we could spice things up a bit by changing the pattern once in awhile. He discounted the notion, and I really didn’t mind because it’s just a half season fun league.
So I walk into the center yesterday to see a woman’s tourney in progress on the far end of our 60 lane house. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but I knew something was up as soon as I guttered my first ball during warm up (I’m quite straight and usually play a 12 to 3 line).
Low and behold, they oiled all the lanes the same.
I had such a great time. I learned more last night than I did last year! Of course you wouldn’t know it by my score (173, 172, 175), but at least I stayed around my average.
I wish they would adopt a sport pattern for our league, but I know it won’t happen because very few of us actually enjoyed it.
The others gave up and quickly increased their beer intake.
