Solid/Hybrid Asyms...tournaments

Anyone been successful in a variety of tournaments with never using a solid or hybrid asym? More so just curiosity, but also questioning if high diff solid syms can fill that spot just as well.

I guess to elaborate some, it seems like my only solid asym sits idle and I'm swapping stuff around for this tournament season. I try to only own 8 pieces at one time, and take 6 max to any tournament. Thinking maybe a low rg, med-high diff, decent cover strength solid to replace it in hopes to get a little more utility out of that slot.

I only carry one solid asym in my tournament bag, and it is a polished Alpha Crux.  However my go to solid is a symmetrical Phase 2.  My other balls are a Marvel Pearl and Blue Vibe.

Yes, but there are a lot of factors that go into it.

I personally think having at least 1 more option is good if you bowl a lot of tournaments. I've used my Absolute Nirvana on Viper because the cover burning energy allowed me to control the backend.

No question I would take my More Cash to a tournament with surface.  My doubts are more whether I should have an asym medium to medium dry ball (of any type) which I currently don't.  My guess if I was more consistent would be yes but not necessary until then.  Even my strong pearl is symmetric (Scandal Pearl).  Only other asym ball I have is a Stealth Bomber oiler I have stored in garage.

Given my rev rate, the lack of underlying friction on the left, and not too many lefties to open a shot up, I always carry a solid asymmetrical with surface to tournaments.

Not a fan of the DDT, Northface?

It’s a great ball, just not what I’d reach for if moving off a Phaze II.

At the same surface, I've found that the DDT and Phaze II hook the same number of boards.  However, the DDT starts hooking earlier but is lazier on the back end than the Phaze II.  The DDT is quintessential smooth while the Phaze II has back end punch not found in too many symmetrical solids.

Ultimately, there are times when either/or is the better choice.  However, you cannot step down or step up to either/or.  The ball motions are too dissimilar.
