Let's turn the darkest of dark into something positive....
« on: November 14, 2012, 09:59:07 PM »
Okay so many of you saw that last week my 3 year old son was diagnosed with a very rare bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma.  Since then we have learned that his cancer is localized, so his chances of surviving 5 years is somewhere in the 65-70% range.  The alternative stage is metastic which has a survival rate just south of 20%...so we'll call that a small victory :)

So let's make this a positive thing.....as best we can at least....

CURE is a charity based in Atlanta that deals solely with children's cancer.  They raise money for research as well as supporting families going through these situations.  The event I will take place in will be a mustache grow for 5 weeks.....

I don't have good facial hair genes....it won't be pretty.

For donations to CURE I will continue to embarrass myself....any amount will help...$1...$10...whatever you can spare.  It will go to help other children like my son hopefully beat these odds one day.

Russell- even though it's still a really tough situation to deal with, at least you guys got some positive news and hopefully things will work out in the best way possible.  I'm going to help the cause and make a donation.  I think many of us will do the same.

I'm not too familiar with the Atlanta area but did some quick research on some of the best places in the country that your son may be able to get the help he needs.  I'm sure you're already looking into this, but it may help you out just in case:

I wish all the best for your son and of course you and your family.

Russell,,my son was diagnosed with ewings when he was 12. He had 3 ribs resectted and whole body radiation. It was a very radical treatment at the time.To make a long story short,he is now 46 and healthy.

Please have faith and don't let your son get down.I am praying for your whole family.

C'mon folks. There are charities and then there are good causes.
This is a good cause.

Always count your blessings, for one day, without realizing it, one or more of them may be gone and there won't be a thing you can do about it.

tog that is inspirational, we know his chances are a little better than a coin flip, but his road will be long and difficult.  That is great that your son beat this before the advances that we have today.  I imagine survival rates were much lower then.

Thanks charlest for your support....

Come on guys and gals...you can do as little as $1 to help this cause.

I shaved my goatee off last night and started "growing" whatever it is that will end up on my upper lip.

You don't have to give $100....$1 can help...anything...come on this is for children.  Like mine...Pediatric cancer is the darkest of disease.  It takes so much...I've watched my son become a shell of himself in the past 48 hours due to his first treatment.  This will be the longest 9 months of my life....and you can help make a difference....every dollar helps.  This money DOES NOT go to my family....it goes to a fantastic charity.

Give it up folks. That new bowling ball isn't going to make that much of a difference but a couple of bucks could

That's exactly right.

How many of you have spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on bowling balls and paypal fees and shipping costs on this site? Give $5. We all give $5 and JUST ONE more kid survives, and you're not going to tell me that's worth it? If you don't think it's worth $5 for Christmas to give some kid's parents the money to spend one more year with their child, you're wrong. Plain and simple.

Contribution made.

Also I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Make sure he stays happy, positive, and keeps fighting. The will to live and happiness go a lot further toward curing a person than modern medicine would have us think.

Thank you rocker...we're taking it one day at a time.  We can't control where the road goes, but we can control the spot where we stand.
