Arsenal is shaping up, but need one more! Suggestions?
« on: March 07, 2005, 12:21:16 AM »
Alright... I'm putting together an 8 ball arsenal.  I have seven ready to go.. need one more.  Here is what I currently have and the conditions they are intended to be used on (surfaces are adjusted to fit these conditions as several of the balls are versatile enough to cover many):

Dry - Arc:
Slate gargoyle

Light - flip
eraser banshee

medium - arc
khameleon

medium - flip
apocalypse

medium heavy - arc
nemesis

medium heavy - flip
absolute inferno

heavy - arc
goliath

I have the mediums pretty well covered I think...  I'm possibly a little light on the heavy oil side??  Maybe a "flip" heavy oil ball if there is such a thing??  I don't use a plastic spare ball any longer as I am able to "kill" the ball reaction...  Other possibility would be another light oil ball...

How about a good all around control ball for when conditions get ugly.  Some of the old favorite may be hard to find.

Tour Power
Thunderflash
Valor P
Crisis Pearl
Pure Hammer
Centaur
Big Blue Hammer

Telling it like it is.

Hey Scott, if you haven't changed much in your physical game since the last time I saw you I really think you'd like the look of something along the lines of a Rule GP2, Impulse Zone, Total Annihilation, or Hammer Real Deal.  They are all big hooking solid balls that want to "Turn the Corner" so it makes them very versatile on fresher conditions and creates a wider window at the breakpoint for someone with a good amount of hand such as yourself.

Hey Buddy!  Fortunately, I have changed my game some since a few years back...  little more speed, about the same revs, more consistant.  I'll look into one of those possibly.
thanks,

Scott

I guess you are talking about the extremes for lane conditions?  The ones where everything goes dead straight (hopeless flood) or the ones that haven't been oiled in a month (ball jumps as soon as it hits).

I have never found a lane condition where I wasn't able to get at least a couple boards movement (that was the night the kid filled the stripper tank with oil).  As far as the dry condition, I have experienced it once in my life.  That day, even plastic jumped as soon as it hit the lane.  Instant roll out.  Doesn't matter what equipment you have then.. comes down to throwing the ball straight like it or not.

As far as pin distances on my equipment, here it goes:

Dry - Arc: (pearl urethane polished)
Slate Gargoyle stacked 3.5 X 3.5

Light - flip (3000 grit polished)
eraser banshee 5 X 5

medium - arc (2000 polished)
khameleon 4 X 4

medium - flip (1500 grit polish)
apocalypse 4 X 3

medium heavy - arc (box)
nemesis 4 X 4

medium heavy - flip (box)
absolute inferno 3 X 4

heavy - arc (box)
goliath 4 X 3

I'm not partial to any layout, but generally prefer something medium/strong and adjust the surface to fit accordingly...

Would a Dynothane Thing Lives fill this hole?  I was just looking at the specs and it has a medium Rg and high diff core and a solid resin cover.  From my previous experience with the regular soaker cover, it was pretty strong...and the soaker X is supposed (at least from their description) to be even stronger.  What do you all think?
