PBA Approved Equipment
« on: September 22, 2009, 07:23:30 PM »
Quick question.  How much of an effect does what you can and can't use in PBA competition have on what equipment you buy?

Hmm.. I must be one of the few.  I'd kind of like to throw some Visionary but God forbid I ever do a regional I don't want to have to get replacements.  And I'm not someone that has balls on the side that I can use instead, what I get is in my arsenal.

Justin,

Luckily, Regionals are considered "grass roots" and have a wider array of manufacturers than the Full Tour.

I'm afraid the PBA does not leave you much choice in the matter, as you well know. You must use what's approved for the tournaments you choose to enter. Kind of a yes/no, on/off matter. Like a lot of things in life, what you want doesn't really enter into the equation.

I like Visisonary also, a lot recently, but I also use other brands. Maybe it's time to add one or two other balls from approved manufacturers to your arsenal over time. I see no other out for you.

Little, if any.  I have little regard for what the pros are using on T.V., mostly because they are not bowling on the same conditions that I am.

I respect their skill, but what they throw on T.V. is usually FAR too aggressive for our house shot.

I would eventually like to bowl in one or two just for the experience. My problem would be I have a lot of Brunswick overseas equipment in my current arsenal.

I did notice that you can submit to have it approved since it is the same stuff as what is here with just a mix and match of some cores and covers for the most part.

Juggernaut, I think you misunderstood my question.  I'm not referring to what's used on TV, but actually just what's approved for use in any type of PBA competition.  If you don't bowl Regionals(or anything similar) and don't think you ever will, your answer would be no.

Jeff, the balls I currently throw are approved.  I don't have anything that's not except for a Lane Masters Counter Strike, which I don't throw anymore.  I would definitely consider throwing Visionary, maybe even build a whole arsenal of Ogres, the only thing stopping me is that they're not PBA approved.  I currently don't bowl PBA events and kind of doubt I ever will feel good enough to bowl one, so maybe I should just ignore what's allowed in their tournaments and what's not.

In the case of Visionary Jason told me a few years ago that they decided thaat they would rather take the monet that registration with the PBA would cost and put it into programs for the average bowler. Thing such as the "test staff" program.Even if i were still bowling PBA events whether a ball is on the approved list would not affect my buying it if it had a reaction i wanted. I just would drill approved stuff for PBA events and leave the nonh approved stuff at home

As much as most of us enjoy bowling and watching it that isn't the case for a lot of people.

I can easily understand why a company wouldn't spend the money to have their equipment PBA"big paycheck" Approved.

You could have better advertising cheaper with paying for commercials during the shows.

Like with Morich and WRWjr. He is the only person I remember seeing on tv with it. It would be much cheaper to do a commercial and have a guaranteed spot every week on TV then going the other route.

Plus that is less cost for the company and should be better prices for the consumer.

Yeah it's no wonder some companies don't pay for registration, although I wish pretty much everyone would pay for Grassroots.  I may just end up saying screw Regionals and throw wahtever I want anyways.  But with any luck I'd think I could find any reaction I want from the other companies.
