Title: Something positive
Post by: Gizmo823 on January 28, 2014, 12:04:48 PM
Everybody list something(s) positive that's going on in their bowling "career."

I got my video camera yesterday and am excited to start posting videos again!

Jayhawk's Detox brought my Sigma Tour back to life, and my last league set with it was a refreshing change from how league has gone the last month or so.

Had some great interactions with people at the shop on Saturday, helped a few people iron some things out with their bowling and drilled a few balls, was a good day.

It's finally tournament season and I'm bowling well!  I've been winning bracket cash and turning it in to more bracket cash.

Also, I'll be getting a IQ Fusion Tour soon, so there's that.  8)

I have my three "Honor" game trinkets for this year(300, 800, 11-in-a-row) out of the way. As it's the last year they will be awarded for repeating such demanding tasks, I wanted to be sure to get the last crumbs!  ;D ;D

My teams are very near the top of the list in both leagues I bowl and show no signs of leaving those spots, very happy.

After 3 months of self videoing and analyzing, I believe I've nailed down an approach were I'm comfortable and I can repeat shots. Now to get back the 10 pins I drop in average doing this by the end of the season.

Improvements on spare shooting, targeting, and now I'm getting the ball in the swing earlier so that I can eliminate muscle.... getting closer to Anthony Pepe's form little by little........ Naw, not really, LOL!

Made a change to my timing/footwork about three weeks ago.  Didn't work on it at all, just made the change.  Taking a bit to get used to, but seems to be working.  Had my first nite with three clean games.  No splits, chopped/ missed spares.  Never had done that before, been bowling since the early 90's.

There is a chance I could get put back on day shift, if that happens I will get to bowl leagues again. Supposed to find to find out if that happens next week  :D

Glad to see things are looking up for you.

Personally, I have been working on changing/fixing my footwork, and I seem to be almost there. I felt what others were saying I've been doing during league on Monday, and managed to adjust my feet cadence for a 255 to save a 620.

Got my release pretty much down, I now have a ball (hyper cell) which has installed some confidence that hasn't been in a while.  I've been working on transitioning my game a little bit for about a year or so, and my coach live 3 hours away.  yep, I've been getting coached mainly on the phone.

release....check.
ball......check.
footwork......che
(there can't be too much more holding me in the low 200's for average  ;D )

Got 2 new(old) pieces in the works.  NIB Freak and Freak Out.

WTH - Bowling without drinking.....
Are you serious.... :-)

Drinking helps me reach that calm place and everything stops moving as fast...

Cashing in tournaments...

I haven't quite discerned/figured Zanatos out.  Not sure if he's uneducated or foreign (speaking a different language first, leading to grammar issues).  His posts usually have that element of "spaced out" some but I'm guessing it's a communication issue related to education or language.

In relation to the OP, I'm career "besting" on my Wed night league.

New fitting for grip in new balls means I am bowling pain free for the first time in about two years!   ;D

I changed some of my mechanics a few months ago in an attempt to take some pressure off my damaged shoulder/elbow. I've managed to shave 10 pins from my average and achieve the state of being completely lost. :)

The positive is I've figured out that I shouldn't have attempted the number of changes I put in play. The challenge is going back. It sounds simple, but it's a process.

Seeing how you are my doubles partner for the CA Open this year, let's make sure we get that worked out!  ;D ;D

LOL.....  I should have figured that was coming.  ;D

There are still a few months to work things out, so all is good. Besides, with your new found skills at shooting 800's, we should do some serious money making damage.  ;)

I know exactly how you feel . . I've got a bad shoulder too, and have tried to "cheat" with my mechanics to achieve the same ball reaction, and while it works to some extent, I'm not near as consistent as I used to be.  That's why I'm switching hands lol, I don't have any bad habits to break . . yet . .

Good luck with the change to the left. I know a few who have put in the time and effort to make the change, and it worked out for them. The best I've seen is Bryan Alpert:

I've competed against him in league for the past few years (he bowls scratch from the right and left side), and he's a freak of talent. He shows how far you can take the right-to-left change.

I like bowling again. :)

After a long stretch trying to solve a grip problem, my local pro figured out the solution. I am up about 15 pins and am enjoying bowling again.

except waiting 10 minutes to start the next game because the entire other team thinks they need a team smoke.....

That's the goal!  There's a guy here in town that has all honor scores both righty and lefty, but it's more of a casual thing for him, he just does it for fun.  I'm not too far from scratch lefty, and since I've got no physical issues and my form is pretty decent, I wouldn't be too surprised if I end up better lefty than I was righty.

Oh, I still need to tweak my grip (pitches and get as much bevel out of my thumb as possible) but now I actually want to. Hungry enough to care.

This is so rude and quite frankly, infuriating. The entitlement complex of smokers is uncanny.
