Something that irritates me....

I bowled a scratch doubles tournament this weekend.  I noticed something that irritates me...kinda.  People who put their names on the back of their shirts irrate me.  If you do it, fine, whatever.  If you aren't a pro and don't bowl in any tournaments that SPECIFICALLY state your name must be on your shirt.  Then don't...please.  

I don't have a problem with nicknames on the front or your first name on one side but your entire name across the back....come on.  Really, did you forget who you are??  It just seems very arrogant to me....especially if you aren't even close to pro caliber.  I know I am not, so guess what, my name isn't on the back of my shirt.

I have my opinion lets hear yours....

When I go to tournaments I ALWAYS wear a shirt with my name on it! A lot of people there that I've never met .. including those on the same lane with me .. they don't have to struggle to remember my name .. it's there every time I bowl. Never thought of it as ARROGANT .. and still don't!

If a tournament doesn't require me to wear a name, I also will not wear one. I also refuse to be one of those people who promotes what league they are in and soe's all their patches on their shirts. However, most tournaments I enter do require a name, so I am forced to break down and wear one. I agree with you on your other points.

Almost every tournament around here requires at least your last name on the back of the shirt.  Personally I agree with them.  Its purpose is for everyone else to know who you are.

Take the last tournament you were at for an example.  Did you know everyone there?  Most tournaments require you to change lanes each game.  Usually the monitors are setup with letters A thru F instead of individual names.  

Now, not to say anyone would cheat, but without the names on the shirts, how do you know the scores on the recap sheet match the person who was bowling.  If a group wanted to, they could request to bowl the same pairs and manipulate the scores any way they wanted.

Also, it helps me to get to know the people a little better rather than just the guys I’m crossing with.

Of course, you won't be able to say that after you return from Vegas so enjoy the Anonymity while you can.

Requires is the key word here.  I don't really care if people know who I am or not.  If I bowl good enough for them to look at the recap or ask, then that means I made a good impression.

Don't you live in Metro Detroit area?  I'm guessing you bowled in the same tournament I did (Can-Am Baker Doubles).  If you would have had your name on the back of your shirt, I would have recognized it and introduced myself.

No offense. I know where you're coming from on this one, but I'm afraid only some more experience will show you that this happens very often. Many people just wear such shirts because they are required so often on many, many tournaments. People are not being arrogant by wearing them; it's just convenient and some people are just proud.

None taken....

Let me explain further, I live in North Dakota.  I can only name one tournament in the area that requires your name to be on shirt.  It is at the end of the year and the step-ladder finals are televised.

Now, if I lived in a more populated area where the majority of tournaments required your name on the shirt then I would understand.

Anymore when I go to a tournament, no way will I put my name on my shirt, because as bad as my bowling has been this year, I don't want anyone to know who I am.

When I used to bowl a lot of tournaments this was true for me.  Most tourneys I bowled required name shirts.  Almost all of my "bowling" shirts had my name on them.  More out of habit than not I'd wear name shirts even if it wasn't required.  Really, it would never occur to me that something like that would make someone irate (or irritate them.)

Maybe some people can't afford to have two sets of shirts, one with their name and one without.  And since not having a name on a shirt means that they can't bowl certain tournaments, they just have their name on all of them.  I've never heard of being disqualified for dressing above what is required.

I have this picture of Rags bowling with Floggurass across the back.  LoL.  I think if I was him I would definitely be in favor of the name thing.
