Something that irritates me....
« on: November 14, 2004, 11:03:28 AM »
I bowled a scratch doubles tournament this weekend.  I noticed something that irritates me...kinda.  People who put their names on the back of their shirts irrate me.  If you do it, fine, whatever.  If you aren't a pro and don't bowl in any tournaments that SPECIFICALLY state your name must be on your shirt.  Then don't...please.

I don't have a problem with nicknames on the front or your first name on one side but your entire name across the back....come on.  Really, did you forget who you are??  It just seems very arrogant to me....especially if you aren't even close to pro caliber.  I know I am not, so guess what, my name isn't on the back of my shirt.

I have my opinion lets hear yours....

Andy, I actually do have one shirt with "Ragnar Floggurass" in large red letters on the back.  Luckily I'm a big guy so it all fits.

I think, around here, it's an ego thing. Since there are not that many great bowlers in the state, those who are good feel the PBA size name across the back makes them a better bowler. These are probably the same guys who complain when house is oiled in a different direction! I agree with Andrew, big neon letters across your shirt in a meaningless, local tournament is irritating. The only good it serves is when you smoke them, they can be identified as the loser!

It is funny, I don't remember seeing anyone from Minot wearing their name on their shirt.  I don't even remember the better ones wearing one.  I know who the good bowlers are Morris, Shick(sp), Fettig and others.

I have seen them bowl before and know they can score.  That is why and how I know their names....I don't need a shirt to tell me.

What irritates me the most is people who take an adjective, misspell it, and then use it as a verb.

A shirt that has someone else's name across the back can ofter be useful...

Ya know Seadrive, I sorta let that go (only a mild backhended reference), but now that you mention it, it does sort of get my panties in a bunch.

Andrew, at least you didn't write "something that irradiates me"
I just hate to see bowlers glow in the dark.

Just stiring the pot guys.  Actually, I was hoping SrKegler would read this.  He is getting some shirts made up with all our names on them.

Going to have to get up pretty early in the morning to pull the wool over my eyes.  Figured something strange was going on after all the messaging back & forth getting sizes, names, etc.

Now, all I have to do is make sure I bowl at least a 112.  Heard about your poor lefty with his 111.

Andrew does this mean you are against my use Fireworks and Loud theme music when I walk in to bowl league twice a week.

I guess I will have to tell the band to look for another gig.

I actually prefer it on the front but will wear on teh back if needed. I always take two shirts just incase of a spill or somehting. I have my name on my golf bag, is that bad?

Agroves, I remember tagging along with my Dad on weekends when he bowled in tournaments all over the state. Most of the bowlers had their name on the back along with their honor scores patches attached. Man did I idolized those guys at that age and hoping someday I would have the same. Now it is like when you shot over 200 you just don't announce it anymore.

Ah yes, the good old days of bowling.  Every team had matching shirts and were really a team.  I remember these same things as a kid.  Our local house used to give a patch to anyone who shot above a 250.  I was the first youth to ever get one.  I miss those days, now its all about carry.
