Something to help open up the lanes?
« on: August 05, 2009, 04:52:39 PM »
Hi there guys, been a LONG time since I was in the market for a new ball, but I think I should look into getting at least 1 new ball for this season. Currently, since switching to sarge easter, I just have a MoRich Sahara and a Ebonite Clash.

The Sahara gives me a pretty good reaction on Medium/Dry, decent length with a smooth arc back. And the Clash gives a pretty strong reaction on Medium lanes, good length and strong arc back. My only issue is I really am looking for something that I can use on Medium/Heavy lanes, to fit in just above the Clash, but I am looking for a ball that gets length but has a hard roll back, which right now seems like there is a lot to choose from.

I like the look of the Hammer Burn, but the polish concerns me, as I feel it will react similar to the clash. The Jigsaw and the Evolve sound similar and both sound pretty good, the Frenzy sounds similar to them as well. I've never been a big storm fan since the paradigm but I am open to any ideas. I really just want something that will continue through the pins and allow to open up the lanes more than the other 2 balls. I have relatively high revs and ball speed around 17mph. Any ideas are appreciated!

You actually have a lot of options.. are you looking for a ball for heavier oil or just to open up the lanes on medium conditions??

The burn may do you just fine for that, but you also have a lot of other options. Depending on revs and tilt something along the lines of a freeze would to the trick on the lower end of the price scale.. But you can look at the Burn, Freeze, Hot sauce, Hy-road, Fast.. Cell pearl, Nomad pearl...there is a lot for mediums..

Heavy you have the Jigsaw, Virual Gravity, Rogue cell.. I don't know too much about the evolve yet so I can't recommend it..

Its hard to say really, my house shot, which I will be on most the time, is about 40 feet in length and is about the perfect "medium oil" shot. On the house shot I want something that is going to let me get inside, open the lane up. But I also want the ball to be versatile and be able to use it at tourneys where more oil is present.

I have pretty high revs, however am on the lower side as far as track goes, and don't really get on the side of the ball much, so don't have a lot of axis rotation.

Might want to think about a Furious/Nomad Solid...you may have to tweak the cover a little to get the motion that is desired. (most likely 2k+ abby) I've seen a few of your vids so I would suggest either one.

The solid cover can help you with the amount of oil, the higher rg numbers and med diff will match up better with your high rev rate/speed ratio and less likely to puke on the backend.

Yeah, my issue with my 2 current balls is just that, continuation through the pins, ball just rolls out once it hits dry . I will look into both of those, and at the lower price on both maybe I can even shell out for the pearl version too!

Now... as I said I haven't been in the ball market a lot lately, and I never knew much about drilling to begin with but now I am seeing things like double thumb drilling and such... so... I guess my question is, what kind of general layout am I looking at to try and get full potential outta these balls? Is stacked Leverage even a drilling anymore? lol

If you want somethin long you can go 5.5x5 or even 6x5 dependin on revs

The Break Point pearl or the AMF Sideways will open up the lane better than or as good as any made.

Either what LaneHammer20 said or you can try the AMF Nkryption Code.  You might be able to find some on ebay cheaper now.

Mine with a 55x4.5x60 (pin under ring) layout and OOB surface gets easy length through the heads and just revs up pretty hard at the end of the pattern before changing directions quickly towards the pocket.

my nod would go to the virtual gravity. im really close to a 5oo rev rate, with alot of axis rotation. i struggled with this ball with tht oob surface, so i took it to 2000 polish and it made a world of difference for me. ive heard a lot of reviews on here and read alot of posts about it being condition specific, but ive used it on everything from fresh to burnt up house shots to kegels highway to hell pattern and the usbc nats pattern all with success. ive never had a solid reactive with the punch the vg has from the deep inside lines. it doesnt get the credit it deserves for being versitile. i would have to say its probably top 2-3 balls ive ever had and thats saying a lot for me to put it up there with the sapphire blue zone and the blue hammer.

I'd say the Nomad Solid, its a great ball and you can just take the polish off and take the surface to 2000 abralon

My Arsenal:
Rogue Cell (coming soon)
Bounty(4.5 x 4.75 Fresh 1000 Abralon)
Twisted Fury(5 x 4 500 Abralon + Reacta Shine)
Blue Vibe(5 x 5 4000 Abralon + Reacta Shine)

At this point I am VERY interested in the Burn! Sounds like a great ball. I am also interested in the Break point pearl (and it looks cool ), and the Nomad(s).

With so many choices out there you need 2 really think about reaction you want. Most heavy oilers are early rolling balls. Most polished pearls are skid snap. So surface changes are going 2 have 2 be done. One ball the I think will work is columbia cool noize. Ball picks up great in the mids and continues a hard  arc into the pocket. I have mine drilled pin up near the ring finger. Has old school ti boss core and new reactive pearl cover. Oob is 2000 no shine. Its very under rated ball and mid price so it won't break the bank

Has anyone thrown both the Burn and the Break Point Pearl? I am probably most interested in those 2 right now...

id go with the vg or the hyroad both are great but if you want to go with hammer i think the psycho is a better fit than the burn
