Is this reasonable? 1 layout

If a person was bowling one league and nothing else, can he use his favorite layout in a three ball aresenal? all symmetrical balls drilled with a 4.5 pin and each having different surfaces strength.

Yes. I use only a few different layouts and usually pin to pap being the difference.

Ex.  50 x 2.5" x 40, 50 x 5" x 40, then I may have some where the layouts are identical and the ball and surface are the differences.

It makes easy to transition on THS or other conditions much easier. Less guessing.

Pretty much my league THS layout is similar.  I have a couple tournament balls with different pin distances...but I usually always use pin up as well...so its wither above the bridge, or at 130 for me.

Do that all the time...Works well...

Once one knows how to adjust the surface...The game becomes much easier... ;)

You don't need much variety for a THS.  I only bowl in one league on a THS ( sub actually ) and take one ball plus a spare ball.

Surface is amazing. The best investment for any serious bowler besides lessons is a ball spinner.

When I look at my tournament arsenal for sport or a ths I've not bowled on I focus heavily on surface. A few favorites are 360/1000, 500/1000, 500/2000, 2000/4000 and 2000/newspaper.

Totally reasonable, especially if you've fine tuned the surface to allow for some gap. I have two layouts and it gives me a bit different shape. I'm either 4.5-5 inch pins, either at 35 or 65 degrees, keep the mass bias on assyms around 55-60, and on the symmetrical pieces, manage flare with extra holes. Some condition pieces (Rico Sure Thing, 2 inch pin to pap Grip it), but that's one off here and there.

I have two main balls I use inwhich both have 4.5" pin to pap with different angles. Out of the two balls, I can actually just use one of them all day, all year for leagues.

And over a decade, most of my league balls were all 4.5" pin to axis. And most were bench mark solids.  I prefer 4-5" pin to pap layouts, but to have a go to layout makes things simpler.
