just another peeve

why do bowlers call bowling balls "pieces"? I admit, I did use the word long ago in a few post. But after some thought, it sounded odd. And the more I read them over the years - post/replies with that word, I stop reading those posts. Maybe I have to get used to it. Just like when I first got into online forums, I had a hard time getting used to posters who have very limited basic writing skills.

But the word "piece" just doesn't seem to fit when saying.... "I drilled up a new piece." A piece of what? Or, "I love this piece, I shot multiple 300's with it." Which of the 6 balls you carry are you referring too?

It's kinda like that guy who surfs on our turf and tries to talk like the locals making up his own lingo. Using the word "piece or pieces" instead of ball or bowling balls, just sound so Kook.

The End.  ;D
