At what point do you replace yours?
-
When you have to ask.
You need to replace it :P

When you have to ask.
You need to replace it :P
When it is in 2 pieces...
When your fingers are bleeding...
When the divots in it are so deep that it hops down the lane...
I'll leave some for everybody else, but "when you have to ask" pretty much covers it...lol

At what point do you replace yours?
If it's a plastic pancake cored ball, never. Just sand it smooth and re-polish.
If the fingers are cracked, plug it and redrill.
If it's tracked out, sand it smooth and re-polish.
If you want another color, then buy a new one.

Lol good one...

Considering they cost $40 bucks Id replace it before ever plugging it or doing any major work to it.

My pro shop sells new ones very cheap when you buy a HP ball. Like $35 drilled, cheap. Last time I bought a new ball (3 years ago) I got a 916AT and a white dot for $250 out the door.
My point being, if you want a new one just get one.
-
I replace mine when it's no longer in fashion. That pattern is so Autumn, 2011! Must go!
Seriously...they have to match your shoes or handbag.
-
I'm getting a new one in a couple of weeks because I want to retire my Bam! that's 6 years old. Also have a grip change going on.

I also don't use grips or slug in my spare ball. So when they start chipping or get beveled out too much from over-use, I get a new one. $35 extra every 5-ish years? Not bad if you ask me.

You have to change spare balls when you get new shoes that don't match. ;D
-
Spare balls are like putters. Once they stop cooperating it's time for a replacement.
-
You have to change spare balls....really? ???
If my spare ball was a person, it would have it's driver's license, lol. I still have a plastic wolf from 1996. It is not as clear as it used to be, lol, but it still works fine. And just for when this one does decide to give up the ghost and comes back up the ball return in 2 or more pieces, I have a one NIB I got about 7-8 years ago just waiting in the wings, lol.

I have been using a Lane 1 XXXL the last few years and have one waiting on the shelf, but a teammate got a new spare ball a couple of weeks ago and it got me thinking, hence the thread.
-
My fingers/thumb shrank so bad my old spare ball was unusable.
I dug up an old Columbia Vector One and threw a nice glaze on it. Is nice.
Funny to see a ball that was a hook monster in its day not wrinkle now.
-
When you start missing a bunch of spares a few weeks in a row. That's how I usually see it.
-
I usually use mine until it starts to crack or a new color comes out that I want to switch to.
-
My current one is 5 years old. Hadn't really thought about it but don't see a need to replace unless something happens to it. ::)

I only replace them when it cracks. I had a Maxim and it cracked off at the thumb. Threw it away.
I bought a Spare Storm when I was 15 which was 16 years ago. Found it in my garage, and it's perfect. No chips, no cracks, nothing. I had to replace the grips and poof like new!

Sorry for a quick hijack, but I saw Bryon Smith was using a Vector 2 as his spare ball in the PBA League telecast last Sunday. First time I thought about those balls in a long time. I used to have the Vector 2, and used a trick drilling on it. Had the fingers and thumb lined up with the arrow on it to make it usable for higher rev players (was supposed to be for low rev players). Ahhh the good ole days, lol.

I have a Taboo spare, that i rarely use.. i just dont like switching balls for spares.. and i can throw my strike ball straight at my 10pins..
I've tried using the plastic ball for spares and found i actually miss the spare more than i make it lol
-
but on the flip side.. i do not plan on getting rid of this ball anytime soon, just in case i goto a place that had bone dry wood lanes....
