Meet the Pro's
« on: February 15, 2005, 02:55:06 AM »
I drove up to Brunswick this weekend for the Pro-Am.  This was my 1st time attending something like this and it felt good to see all of the pros, even the ones that I did'nt recognize. I must say that Parker Bohn is a really nice person.  I watched him from afar at first and finally got to actually meet him. He is very genuine.  All of the pros appeared to be cool.  Ryan Shafer was very stand offish and Patrick Allen seemed like the Pro-Am was part of the job that he really didn't care for.  Walter Ray was pretty cool too. No matter some of the pros personality, it was good to see all of the guys bowl.  I wish I would've participated in bowling with them,  I was definitely inspired to take my game to the next level.  There were alot of amateurs who bowled that I enjoyed watching, especially the young bowlers. Who have you met that you liked or disliked?

You bet!  I met Dave Traber and he was not nice at all.  Blew off several people looking for an autograph, even a 14 year old who was getting the cast on his bowling arm signed.  Granted, he was in a bad mood from shooting poorly, but come on.  Mike Aubly is great and so is Danny Wiseman.  Another bad one that I met was Nelson Burton Jr.

Yeah Delutz is a class act, as is Ryan Shafer. I bowled with Ryan Shafer at a pro-am years ago and he was funny as could be. His humor is a bit dry and certainly not for mixed company!! But all in all a nice guy.

I met several pros when I was younger, bowling the Quaker State Pro AM in Grand Prarie, Texas and most all of them were great.  I haven't met any lately, so I can't really comment.

Amleto Monacelli was nice as was Steve Hoskins the few times I spoke with them.  One of my favorites was Guppy Troup.  He was always having a great time and signing autographs for everyone.

The one that sticks out is Danny Wiseman.  He is a great guy.  I shot 279 (solid 9 pin in 9th frame) against him and he was having fun rooting me on and calling me a bagger and such.  After the ProAm was over, he came back down to my lanes, congratulated me again and signed a few things for me.  Truly a class act.
