I have an Optyx Dragon Spare ball. Sometimes when I throw it at my 10 pin it appears to hook very small at the end. It is drilled like a spare ball should be, maybe its just me throwing it wrong???
Any ideas?

Spare balls DO have the ability to hook. People used to use them FOR their hook balls, back in the day. Plus, the clear balls like the dragon have a tendency to hook a little.

I always thought it was the ball!!! LOL. Might need to get me a white dot then. I don't know how many pins I have missed b/c it hooked a little at the end.

u can always put a weight hole on ur pap, and that wil make it less hookie on dry backends, but i dont know if u would want to put another hole into that ball

Dull it to 1500-2000 grit! it shouldn't hook. If you what some more reassurance put some polish on it like car wax or something along the lines. It should take away the surface friction.

What about putting it in one of those wax polish machines? Bad for hooking balls, but if I don't want it to hook it might be a good thing??

That could work but you'd be doing that every night u bowl. with the car wax you would do it like every month.

Question....Do you throw it like you do your strike shots? If so, i suggest learning to throw it with complete forward roll so it doesnt move a board.

No, I try to flatten my hand out. It may be my fault, but sometiems when I am sure it was flat it still seems to not wuite hook, just roll a little the way I didnit intend for it too. It's hard to explain its reaction.
But, that ball can hook!!! When I crank it on even light oil that thing will turn the corner!

I had the same problem with my plastic soccer ball. It would hook at the 7 pin (lefty) I found out that the durometer (hardness) of the ball was 78 – 80, the white and blue dot is rated at 75 – 78.
There is a plastic ball made from Circle Athletics that has a hardness rating on 88! I called them and they confirmed it. It costs only $36.95 at Buddies.
I’m having one drilled tomorrow

Also - plastic will track up, and when it develops a track, it does hook more. Vis-A-Balls track up easy.
