Has anyone else tried to make one of these things? After seeing that they cost upwards of 200 bucks online, my father and I took up the task of making one for a lot less.
Using old parts from a garage door opener, bearings, scrap metal, some plywood, a flower pot and a lot of nuts and bolts, we made it for about $30. The only thing I bought were the two bearings for $15 each.
It has 1/3 HP, and spins at about 800 RPM. I've talked to my local pro shop guys who say they've had friends who've tried to make spinners and ended up having the ball fly off when they started them but the only problem with mine is the base wants to wander a little if you put it on a table or other glossy surface. Putting it on the floor solves the problem.
So far, I've only used it to clean my ball and lightly sand and clean a friend of mine's (we just completed it) but so far I really love it. My friend had a fairly new ball that was losing some of it's reaction and after I gave it back to him he said it was almost all the way back to where it had been. Hopefully I'll be able to use it for other friends/aquaintences of mine and maybe make a couple bucks off of it.
