i'm gonna be the village idiot of this post and say...whatever strike ball i'm using (unless it's my Freak, in which case i'll use my EMB XF) and it's not that I don't believe in spare balls, but space limitations forced me to tweak my game to be able to use any ball as a spare ball in order to carry that fourth important strike ball.

Nu-Line X-Calibur.  The original reactive resin ball.  Current hook potential = about 2 boards.

I have a few that I have used in the past, but my fav of those was the Storm Golf Ball. Shot 279 with that thing on fried lanes in a tournament once.

Currently I use an Ebonite Yin Yang. I got it used, and it was sort of drilled for a full roller. The pin is in the track. This thing does not hook at all. And to make sure it won't it tracks over the thumb hole. I plan on drilling any spare ball I use like it from now on.

I am however looking for a Spider Man ball, maybe even a Sponge Bob Square Pants as well. Anyone have one?

USA Pride Vis A ball.
And when that one tracks up, I have another one waiting.

The ONLY ball I've ever bought just for looks.

Philosophically, I don't believe in using a spare ball, either.  However, because of the lousy lane surfaces here, I use a separate ball for spares in order to extend the lifespans of my strike balls.

I mostly agree with the one ball theory but.....  I only have one spare I use mine on and it's the 10 pin.  Everything else is the first ball.

although i can throw my "strike ball" as straight as an arrow i usually use a plastic ball for more margin of error. my current spare ball is a brunswick usa viz-a-ball. a NOTRE DAME viz-a-ball will arrive shortly and will be put to good use.

For me, it's the Columbia Blue Dot.  Mine punched in at 90 on the durometer at the '96 Mixed Nationals in Reno....the fellow checking the ball hardness did a double take when he saw 90, until he rolled the ball over and saw that it was indeed a Blue Dot!

Blue Dot....don't go bowling without one!

Urethane Red Claw Pearl. It can also double as a stike ball if needed.
I've also got a pink hammer under the bed.

Storm Football for left side spares.  I can use my first ball most of the time, but my conversion average for 4-7 and 4 or 7 pins has risen since my coach convinced me to use plastic.
