ball or bowler
« on: March 03, 2009, 12:57:06 PM »
On this site they have ball of the year and over hyped and under performed balls.

When is it no longer the ball and it's actually the bowler.

I have balls that I'm more comfortable throwing then others, but for any of the ones I have, they don't make that big of a difference in my average.

What % do you think it's the ball compared to the bowler and vice versa?   At what level is it the bowler?
--------------------
High game 300, 298(no middle finger) 290, 290(no middle finger)
High series 804
High triplicate 774
High average 221
best game. when I was 6 I bowled a 158

I have a 16# morich awesome finish I want to trade.  1 season on it.    I am looking for 15# stuff

When more then half the people who use a ball say it's junk, then it may be a junk ball.

But there will always be at least one guy who had his high game with said junk ball, so is it really junk?

hence the reason so many people trade balls. you buy one because it's supposed to be great, use it and you're not happy with, trade it and try something else. i use an old "red zone" and an "action attack". sold some really nice newer stuff because the older stuff fits my game better. it probably depends  on what balls fit your stle also. a cranker, tweener and stroker might all  have different balls they feel comfortable with. a crankers "ball of the year" might be completely different than a strokers. one man's junk is another man's treasure.

imho the ball makes a great difference in the bowler. For example, the virtual gravity is the ball of the next year i believe. I have never seen a ball with this profound appeal in the years i have been bowling.the honor scores and averages are blooming like wild flowers.usually you see the better bowlers with the high end monsters do well,I have seen seniors using this ball where they were only using the same ball they had used for the last 10 years and bowling well with it.
Thats just one ball ,but I know for me ,my avg. has gone up quite a bit since i my balls were stolen and i had to rethink my line up. Not only my avg.,but also my confidence in my ability and in my equipment.I am not really a better bowler.I know this for many reasons, spares, shot consistency, ability to close when needed.I have achieved a greater propensity for bigger games though .I am sure that this is largely in part to having better equipment.I use the same ball as 4 other people in adjacent lanes i shoot 240 they shoot 279.Lanes change i cant throw the same line or make proper ball change i shoot 170 they shoot 240.
Balls do make a great difference and have made bad bowlers better, but they cant make a bad bowler a good bowler, only practice and knowledge can truly do that .How many of us could shoot 230 on the cheetah with plastic,or even with their favorite ball.
