what's your mark? is at the arrows? cause it looks like you have multiple targets at the arrows.

Years ago, I used to use the 4th arrow system and every leave I had, I used the 4th arrow. Nothing else. I was a damn good spare shooter then than I am now. 10 pins i was in the low 91-92% range. I didn't strike much, but i could pick my spots. full rack picking up the ten pin only 16 in a row. For the 7 pin 9 in a row is my highest. I WAS money.

I went away from that system, and currently I'm 85% on 10 pins. The year before 88%.

The 4th arrow system works really well, I just got lazy and my game changed.

His system is about lining up off the 7 or 10 depending on how you personally shoot at those pins.

There are aspects I like about his three board adjustment system. However, it breaks down in certain situations like picking up the baby split. In that case, I personally want to move left with my feet -- not right.

Nothing wrong with systems, but to me the best system is to use a spare ball on all your spares ( possible exception for double wood ) flatten your release and don't try to throw harder than you can while staying in balance.  Too many multi pin spares like 3-6-10 cant always be played by a formula, but if you have been practicing using the spare ball routinely you have a pretty good idea where to line up for these spares in different houses or patterns.

Also. A lot of guys dont get to practice on sport patterns.  If you do as I suggested above spares wont play that much different between house shots and flatter patterns.  I cant count how many tim3s I have seen this happen.  A guy at nationals leaves a 4 or 7 in early in the first game.  He promptly hooks the dpare shot in the gutter throwing his strike ball.  Early in the second game he leaves another 4 or 7 and flags it on the right because the carry down has set up a bunch.  Throw straight with plastic or urethane and no problem

+1000 on the plastic ball for spares
the single best thing you can do to improve your scores at Nats is to practice spares all over the lane with a plastic ball. -minus double wood
many, many pins are given away at Nationals due to the simple fact stated above

I have a mix of systems with a polyester ball and my strike ball. Spare balls are the way to go......

For 4, 6, 7, 10 pin combo leaves I use the 3rd arrow system. Basically, I go cross lane.

With buckets, 3 6 10, baby splits, and wash outs I play straight up 1 to 1 using the key pin.

2 3 5 pin leaves I adjust from my strike line.

I have to say though, not flattening my wrist for spares - like I once did before, did make a significant difference on right side pin leaves. mainly the 10 pin. My spare ball hooks, even with my speed at 17.5 average, my spare ball with a core moves. I am 39 of 46 on 10 pins missing 7 this first half.

I went away from the breaking of my wrist due to the fact that I go through thumb hole repairs often. I still "thump" over my thumb hole down the lane, but not as bad as going end over end.

Sounds too complicated for me.  I use plastic.  Stand on the opposite side of the lane somewhere.  Draw a line through the arrows to lead pin and throw the ball.  Works every time, unless I throw a bad ball.

^^^^^ agreed +1

Some of you all make spare shooting way too complicated.  Best decision I've ever made (bowling related) was to throw plastic at all non-sleeper spares (with the exception of a 5-7 or something).  All of them (10's, 7's, 3-6-10's, 4-7's, 2-4-5's).

My modified spare system sounds complicated to you guys, but for me it works. Though I am in 85% in 10 pin this first half (39 of 46), I am 100% on all other single pins except on the 9 pin (9 of 10) and 6 pin (6 of 7). For multi pin non split leaves, but including the 3 10 baby split, I am 97%.

Though again, I do agree that a spare ball for all the spares except ones with sleepers, is the way to go. Likewise, I just use what works for me. either cross lane or parallel depending on the pin(s) left. And hook @ it for pins next to or directly behind the head pin.

The best spare system is the one that works for you.  We are all different.

This system is the opposite of what I was taught with the dick Richter bowling camp.

They would adjust you off your strike ball, results depend on your game and the condition bowling on, BUT it's a solid system especially when starting out and learning to throw a hook...Etc. I took the course probably in 8th grade(1999 ish?)

U have to understand Richters mentality came from a time where balls didn't book so much as well.  This method was disgned for a typical house shot...

(Pin leave=#of boards left or right of your strike line)

2 pin=3 boards right
3 pin=3 boards left

4 pin=6 boards right
6 pin=6 boards left

7 pin=9 boards right
9 pin=9 boards left

Multiple pins and back row depend on your game...But this system dramatically helped me, it's honestly got me into the 200s.  Not necessarily by better spare shooting but confidence in my spare shooting put me at ease and actually struck more AND converted more spares.

They would adjust you off your strike ball,

The system he's showing in the video is called the "Reverse" 3-6-9 in one of the USBC manuals, Because You base the spares off the corner pin lines, Where as in the standard 3-6-9 system it is based more off your strike line.
