Longer Span vs. Shorter Span
« on: September 30, 2005, 01:27:48 AM »
I've 2 balls, 1 drilled to the longest span of my hand while the other is a comfortable span.

I realised with a longer span, I can't really tilt the ball compared to the shorter span.

Anyone to explain this theory for me? or to correct me over this?

i think when the span is shorter it's easier to put more revs on the ball, yet your axis tilt suffers, that's probably wrong, i don't really know

scratch that, it's probably the opposite, as in more revs with longer span yet less axis tilt

Right now my stuff is drilled for a "long" span.  I recently tried out one of my old balls with a very relaxed span and like it a lot more.  I can rev it up more, and it is a lot easier to put side roll while keeping the same amount of tilt.  With the longer span, if I tried to get side roll it would greatly increase my tilt.

The shorter span creates a more relaxed grip, thus creates a better release and increased revs/tilt. Plus you get less calluses

Am I just the oddball who didn't experience more tilt with a shorter span, or do you guys mean to say rotation instead of tilt?

I recently went to the shorter/relaxed span. I can rev the ball a little more, but it seems to be at the cost of accuracy. The relaxed span feels better, but I am still undecided...I may still prefer the longer span.
