Bowler Specs
« on: June 05, 2011, 01:12:46 AM »

I've seen numerous postings where bowlers indicate their specs.   The only thing that I know about my ball speed is what I see on the automatic scorers. I have no clue about my rev rate, axis tilt/rotation or PAP.

I've tried to figure some of these things out by reading the information in the "brcom_unofficial_fa" forum.

Besides a proshop operator, what other means are available to help me determine this information ?   The USBC is nearby.  Are they an option ?

Thanks and regards,

John C.

PAP you can get from asking your proshop guy and will be the easiest to get. Rev rate you can get an estimate on you own if you have a video camera. Search on youtube and there are videos that can show you how to figure it out. Most proshops also have programs that can calculate speed and rev rate. You will probably have to pay for a lesson to use it. My proshop charges $35 for an hour.

Proshop is the best place to start to find out your specs, but you can find your PAP by using the method discussed in this LINK.

Scroll down to the Bowler Specs section in the link below:

A good start is to find the track of your ball and relate it to the above link.

Simply throw a clean ball normally down the lane and carefully grab it from the ball return and immediately take it to a well lit area.   Look for a series of oil tracks fanning out from the thumb and finger holes.     Mark the very first track with a grease pencil (first oil ring close to the thumb and finger holes = high track).  From there you can find your PAP and so on.
